A clearance of less than 2 inches is one of the single most satisfying things I've ever seen. You probably wont see this but, noice. 👌

To qualify for the Olympics you have to have met the qualifying mark (2.29) AND also place in the top 3 at the US Olympic Trials. This includes making it through the prelims to the Final then jump really high again in the finals.

I have it a mental block with high jump. I have been training for about 4 days in a row and the first day I cleared 5’1” but then the next day I hit about 4’10 or so and landed on the bar so that kind of started it then I would just stop in front of the bar. I need to know how to overcome this but I don’t know how
@DarkAnge108

looks like you almost hit 2.10 :P very impressive practice, i noticed that sometimes your drive knee comes down quickly after take off and when you keep it up longer you get so much more height. you can see the difference in the miss at 2.30 then the make at 2.30. when will you be jumping again in 2011??

Can someone help me? I watch all these videos of high jumpers and they jump so far out from the mat but I'm taught to jump as close to the mat as possible. I'm only in 8th grade.
@lamannahighlights7979
3 жыл бұрын
I’m currently a D1 high jumper pushing 6’8”. I learned the same technique in high school. Jumping far from the mat comes with experience. You will notice that as the bar gets higher, the jumper will jump from farther out. This is because their body needs enough space away from the mat to elevate to the height of the bar before being over the bar. In 8th grade most kids aren’t jumping as high as this guy so you shouldn’t have to be very far from the mat in order to clear your height.

speed is a good thing but it should be a controlled speed in the approach like 75-80%, as for getting your hips higher, when you take off and throw your hands up, follow your hand closest to the bar with your head so you get your full potential out of your arch, then when you notice your hips are over tuck the chin into your chest, the problem could also be your drive knee, a stronger drive knee can be achieved by not dragging your toe...that was my problem

In 8th grade you're going to want to jump closer to the mat because you aren't going to be jumping too high. The higher you start jumping, the farther out you need to jump.
