So how many of you guys have been caught looking at something on your smartphone that shouldn’t have over the last few weeks?
So how many of you now need a privacy screen protector?
So the question is, should you get the Zagg Invisible Shield Elite Privacy Glass for 45 dollars?
Only if it’s on sale. A good sale. A REALLY good sale...
At MREH, Monty and I base all our reviews on actual usage. We may not be the biggest name in reviews but we’re working on being the best. We’re the Wagyu beef of reviewers.?
So in the next few minutes, I’m going to talk about the privacy angles, coverage, the hardness, brightness and clarity loss of the product as well as the protection it might offer your iPhone. One of the things I’m curious to know is how this product is going to stack against other Zagg products that I’ve tested in terms of impact protection.
When it comes to the angle of blackout, on Edith and my custom app, I measure the angles to 45 degree angle range which isn’t anything special. 45 from my perspective is the standard angle. Anything smaller and the privacy protector will get really annoying. And there are products with smaller angles.
The Zagg Invisible Shield Glass+Privacy will only prevent people on your left and right from seeing your screen so you’ll have to aware of the people standing over your or below you. And make sure you get a case with a big front lip in case you need to do the “I’M NOT LOOKING AT PRON MOM” slam on the table and not break your screen. And get a good screen protector as well. A plastic one so that it absorbs screen betters.
The Zagg only covers the viewable area of the screen so between the end of the screen protector and the edge of your case, well, again, you better hope you have a case with a good lip.
When it comes to hardness, the Zagg product claims to have 9H hardness which means its’ going to do great against a 9H pencil but on the MOHS scale it's going to be a hard 6 or a soft 7.
This screen protect scratched at 6. So slightly below normal glass.
Now every privacy screen protector reduces the brightness of the screen. With the Zagg product, brightness was reduced by 27% by my test which was done by recording the luma values of a color card before and after in Final Cut Pro. Now 27% is actually the base as no product that I’ve tested was actually better. A few that are worst. But none that are better.
Now the most subjective part of the review is clarity and on the Zagg product, if you look close enough, there is a visible cross hatching across the entire screen. It’s fairly fine like the 3M product.
Now the last part of the review involves the protection aspect. How tough is it? From my previous tests, the toughest Zagg product was the screen protector that came with the Invisible Shield 360. That broke at 93 cm which puts it at the high end of quality tempered glass. Their version of Alumino Silicate glass, the Zagg Defender broke at 82cm which is at the lower end of the spectrum for quality tempered and their normal glass?
When it comes to drop protection, my glass broke consistently between 50-60cms. Which is MUCH lower than the average tempered glass screen protector.
So the bottom line is, average privacy performance, below average glass, premium price. WHY ZAGG? WHY?
