In this episode, the climactic car chase has three 1955 classics, a Ford squad car, an Oldsmobile squad car and a Chevy sedan. Surprised we didn't see more Ford squad cars during the duration of the series, since Ford was the most popular police car from 1955-59.

@@reynaldoflores4522 Answering that is easy. Those strident horns at the start of every show will attract attention at a distance. 1950s UK schoolboy me would drop everything as soon as I heard it and go to the TV for this "must see" fast moving 1950s TV show, That is precisely what it was designed to do. It worked. For schoolboys and adults alike.

Music is expensive. The theme and a group of "cues" was recorded when the series started. Introduction to scenes of various sorts , transitions, etc. Then, for each episode the music editor would choose music from the stock of recordings and cut it together for the program. They may have added from time to time but all the music and most of the sound effects are stock, cut together for the episode. Some sound effects were probably recorded for each episode, footsteps etc but mostly stock.

Rediscovering this after 55 years is pure nostalgic joy. The role could have been made for Crawford. Having spent 20 years in law enforcement myself, I almost feel like I knew him. This is an excellent episode, one of the best in the series in fact; and it is always a pleasure to see Officer Garvey/ actor Jon Locke in one of the shows, and here he has a feature role. He reminds me of what a real HWP officer would look and act like. Too bad he wasn't in more of them than just the few that he is. This is the only episode that I know where Dan Mathews is driving a ’55 Ford squad car. No idea why they didn’t use it again as they did for all the other squad cars in the show. The shot of the HWP officer driving his Oldsmobile along the Highway at 22:52 to 23:00 was recycled in many different episodes but this is the one where it was original footage and not stock footage - and need I mention how nice that brand new ’55 Chevy that the general delivery store owner drives on the highway looks. It’s worth a lot more now than it was then. 10-4.

Most US police departments in 1955 drove Ford Mainline sedans. The only difference was that most of them were 2-door sedans as opposed to the 4-door in this episode. I think this was the only episode where Dan Mathews is driving a Ford squad car, which is a bit surprising since Ford was the most popular police car through 1959, when Mopar became the police car of choice.

This episode from season 1 had greater writing detail and development than in later seasons. Some of the later seasons were using some improvised dialogue and had many more continuity gaffs. I wonder about the reasoning for this - whether it was due to budgets, or tighter scheduling, or perhaps as some others have suggested, they were having trouble with the star staying sober during filming. As with many other shows, the higher quality episodes seem to be within the first couple of seasons.

Good actors and actresses who new how to act and didn't have to cuss all the way through show ,writer's new how to use words instead of cussing !! oh and they didn't booty butt naked or having sex or body parts all over the place . New where the entertainment industry was going when they made the, Dirty Harry and the Godfather movies neither one was good . Didn't care for all the violence moved out of gutter neighborhoods to get away from that crap , cost me a lot of money but I got me and my kids out of it , and the movies made about that kind of violence don't impress me and they only create problems .I was in my early 20's when these movies came out . And I still think those kind of movies are garbage and actors and actresses can't act very good these days !!

Back in the day, when roadblocks actually worked! Now there’s too much traffic to deal with and minimal resources.

Next weeks case is a very exciting one, next weeks case is a very unusual case, Hmm they are good, but not unusual. I guess for most of late~1950~early to mid~1960 America these were unusual and exciting crime stories. Most of America even into the 1970's could leave their doors unlocked. Today, even if you are locked up like Ft.Knox, someone will get in. If someone wants in, they will find a way and get in.

I accidentely left my back door unlocked last night and no one broke in . Now I wonder if I should be offended because my place didn't look like it was worth breaking in to.

Gotta laugh at myself. I sure was impressionable at that age. I really enjoyed this back in the day as I do know but now I marvel at some of the stupidity.

This crook was a bit more cunning and challenging than the usual ones Mathews ran into. Makes me wonder if this type of life insurance scam was rampant around the country at the time. And that grocer was vicious to the bitter end.
