A long long time ago...in a universe far far away. Great comedy, from the start a great concept. People change (for whatever reason), but the show lives on.

Paul famously described the "disgraced" exchange to be the moment where he knew the show couldn't survive with Angus anymore - if the leader of the show was losing the moral high ground to the Hamiltons, there was no room to do what they were supposed to.

Angus had been told by the producers to refer to her husband as "the disgraced former MP", ostensibly to get a rise. If Angus hadn't done that it probably wouldn't have gone as badly for him as it did. The episode, I mean, not the scandal.

What a kerfuffle in a tea cup. Angus took it beautifully. No disgrace anywhere to be seen, imo.

Funny thing about the takedown of Croydon here is that this was broadcast less than a year before the first series of Peep Show...

Ah, back in the day when Rod Liddle was considered too bluntly left wing for the BBC and characterised as a Guardianista here. He's considered a right winger in the pocket of Tories now, one of the main campaigners against the "BBC's leftward trend", let alone Labour and the Guardian... What's funny is his views haven't really changed since, just circumstances, and he was always an odd mix of the two. After all, he wrong his tongue-in-cheek anti-toff pro-Labour (under Blair) piece for the Torygraph.

It was excruciatingly painful to watch that. Why on earth, apart from the money, and the 'fame', of course, would Christine Hamilton go on that show? She even had a twitching eye, which shows the stress she was under. Very disturbing.

Who knows, but she did. Kudos to her for doing so. I have been watching these shows for a while on KZitem, and am amazed at what most of the contestants, knowingly are walking into. You Brit's, on the whole, do seem to have a better sense of humor about yourselves. This is the kind of show many of us on this side of the pound would love to see, but it would never fly here. Considering the current sociopolitical climate of the world, it gives me more hope for your future, than ours. Few Americans have that ability to laugh at ourselves, and join in when someone scores a humorous point against us, and we have guns. I believe we will all survive, but here in the U.S. We seem to have a need to leave our society deeply scared. We make fun of the British (and anyone else's) ability, and desire to remain “civilized,” even in the face of deep conflict. I know I am painting with a “broad brush,” but generally speaking I believe it holds true. Good luck to you.
