"Although how you're supposed to watch a video without a television is beyond me" That joke was much funnier due to the fact that I'm watching this on youtube.

Definitely one of the best shows in the series IMO. I wish they were all done like this.

Oh god! That logo! Just hearing the VCI logo is a nostalgia trip, like hearing the Thames TV one. This is a very good VHS rip, incidentally. Used to have this tape when I was younger.

Is it me, or is there a detectable irritation on the part of Merton with Deayton (and this was before Deayton's downfall).
@653j521

david sloan If you had seen this before learning about what was going on behind the scenes, you might not have noticed any irritation and just taken it for part of Merton's usual shtick. It is the knowing that changed your perception of what you are seeing.

Merton has revealed in interviews that he never had much respect or affection for Deayton. And that became fairly obvious at the time of Deayton's downfall.

yes, but do you know the difference, without googling first, between a stote and a polecat? or Essex and Slough?....btw, in Europe an Elk and a Moose are the same thing, what Americans call ''elk' are called 'hinds' in Europe...We All Share The Same Differences.
@paul1x1

RIXRADvidz nope elk were never called hinds that’s a European red deer so Europeans got to North America and came across moose and called them elk or waited till they got to the west and changed the name from elk to moose and then used elk as the name for elk I call bullshit I don’t know your animals or country so I don’t broadcast on NBC the incorrect information or if I did and was informed later of the mistake I would just say sorry bout that

Good grief! That's supposed to be a criticism? Reminds me more than a little of the scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the lads are debating the physics of the African Swallow's carrying capacity versus that of the European variety...except that this bit of irreverent irrelevance was very, very funny, whereas your comment--along with nearly every other "criticism" of the show from the loyal readers of the Sun and Daily Mail--are not only not funny but truly irrelevant. Wankers on parade angry at the wit of the clever lads, really, a sort of prefiguring of the Brexit divide in today's Britain. Morons squarely on one side, reasonable, intelligent and even kind folks on the other. In fact, this could be the solution to the Brexit conundrum. General evacuation of Northern Ireland, resettle it with Nigel Garage, Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mog and all their followers, allowing the Republic of Ireland and the UK to be part of the EU and the new Republic of Morons to enjoy each other's company in peace. Or?

The then Labour Party Deputy PM (or possibly other Front Bench position. Can't remember now) Roy Hattersley, was supposed to be a guest on that episode, but he didn't turn up and no explanation or notice was given, so they had no time to get another guest. As such, and given Hattersley was notably 'rotund', he was 'replaced' with a tub of lard as payback.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?" kzitem.info/news/bejne/sYWFmqCojZWdgY4
