I noticed the is a side trail between Viterstugan ans Syterstugan that goes over Norra Sytertoppen. How is that trail and how does it compare to the Kungsleden trail that goes through the valley? I'm hiking the end of July 2022.
@JonathanLundmark
2 жыл бұрын
I would say the trail from Viterskalet up to Norra Sytertoppen is well marked and easy to follow (many people go up and down this route). From Syterskalet to Norra Sytertoppen is not as common to get to the top so I can imagine the trail is not as good on that section if you are planning to cross over. It is quite a climb and I can imagine it would be tough if you bring all your gear along with you over, most people pitch their tent at the bottom of either side and make a day hike back and forth. Another reason to do so is that hiking through the U shaped valley is very beautiful, and if you hike ”over” Norra Sytertoppen you miss that opportunity :)

Do we need STF membership to buy food at the cabins? Is the food at the cabins Expensive? if so by how much? where can we get a detailed map of the entire kungsleden from abisko to hemavan? which place do u recommend to by freeze dried camping food in Sweden?
@JonathanLundmark
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You do not need an STF membership to buy food or stay in the cabins, I think a can of Ravioli was something around 50 SEK. If you have a membership you get some discounts on your stay and your food, something around 10% but you can find the exact details on their webpage (swedishtouristassociation) The same goes for a map of the full trail! Freeze dried food I typically buy in advance either online or in-store (From XXL, naturkompaniet, addnature or outnorth). I recommend ”Blå Band” for the best flavors! :)

Agree fully with all the positive comments. Some really, really good use of a drone, and the factual summary at the end is great too. One question, is there any public transport to Ammarnas ?
@JonathanLundmark
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Roger, much appreciated. Yes there is public transport to Ammarnäs, buses to Ammarnäs go from ”Sorsele”. We took the train from Stockholm to Östersund, switched to a bus towards Sorsele, and then another bus switch to Ammarnäs. The whole trip can be bought as 1 purchase from SJ.

Hi, This has to be one of the best Kungsleden videos I’ve seen!! Very well done. We will be attempting to thru hike the whole thing next august together with my dad (70) Would you recon a 2c sleepingbag would a good choice or is that too cold still, even combined with thermals? Cheers from Holland 🇳🇱
@JonathanLundmark
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Jeroen! Highly appreciated, if you enjoyed it please consider subscribing :) A 2c sleeping bag would likely suffice, the nightly temperatures should be above 2c on most nights (~5-9) - especially with thermals. I love the idea of a thru hike - what an adventure! I have planned to hike the northern part within a year / a year and a half myself. The most northern and the most southern sections (start and end of Kungsleden) are 2 Swedish Signature Trails and deemed a little something extra compared to the rest but all sections supposedly have unique aspects. Best of luck to you!

Hi Cecilia! The hike took place in late August. I was hoping the mosquitoes would have cleared by then by there were still quite a few. But it was really nice seeing some parts beginning to turn red. I think if you go in september/october it will be more fiery colors but less lush green segments.

@@helenajanssens3628 I see! That sounds like a relaxing tempo and feasible distance for 2 weeks averaging ~14km per day. We hiked the southern part. @@JonathanLundmark Nice! Do you know how to get back to the car when you have to leave it at the start or ending point?
@JonathanLundmark
2 жыл бұрын
@@helenajanssens3628 Hi! If you will hike the full route from Abisko to Hemavan you can take a bus from Hemavan to either Lycksele or Gällivare and take the train from there to Abisko. If you only want to trek the portion in my video from Ammarnäs to Hemavan, you can take a bus back to Ammarnäs via ”Sorsele”. All options taking you back does take quite a lot of hours and there is no ”1 way” solution, you will be required to switch. We took the bus to Ammarnäs from Stockholm (first train to Östersund). And then bus with another train switch from Hemavan when we went back. Good luck!
