Sneeuberg had been on my bucket list ever since my first visit to the Cederberg in 2015 - a sharp summit towering over all other peaks in the range, visible from almost everywhere else I'd hiked in the area. John, Jono, Tess and I finally had the chance to make it happen, and it was every bit as spectacular as we'd hoped!
The route starts gently through some uncharacteristically green valleys and marshland, before leaving the comfort of the river for the desolation of the mountain's lower slopes. Branching off from the Duiwelsgat path, you then summit a steep pass to the south of the peak, before following the southern ridge up. Enveloped by an unusual amount of cloud, we decided to make camp a little beneath the summit, and woke up the next morning to scramble up to the peak itself, and to some of the best views I've seen in the country! We then followed the same path back down, and arrived comfortably back in time for the drive back to Cape Town.
Big thanks to Tess, Jono and John for an absolutely lovely weekend :)
