The Trail
This trail is located inside Taroko National Park and so a permit is needed and can be booked in advance. You can also reserve a cabin space at the camp in advance on the new National Park website:

Transport:
The trailheads are located along the No.8 Cross Island Highway at Dayuling (大禹嶺) and Ci’en Tunnel (慈恩隧道). There are limited parking spaces at both trailheads.
There was previously a bus service that ran along this route and stopped near both trailheads, but services stopped after the large earthquake in April 2024.
You can check online to see if the buses have restarted.
We parked at Ci’en Tunnel and got a ride to Dayuling with a local farmer who provides transport and accommodation ($500) from his farm located near Ci’en Tunnel. You can call him to book:
