The Kouebokkeveld in the Southern Cederberg, South Africa, is a vast range of scattered boulders and shrubland, dotted with towers of rock eroded into some of the most unique formations you'll find anywhere! I joined UCT's Mountain & Ski club for an overnight hike into the heart of these mountains, in a part of the Cederberg I hadn't yet had the chance to explore.
This was easily one of the coldest hikes I've ever done - we hiked up through a freezing wind, and woke up covered in frost to one of the iciest mornings I've experienced in the mountains. That just added to the already powerful feeling of remoteness, and it was a stunning trip from start to finish. Thanks in particular to Nic and Sarah for organising and navigating, and to everyone else for a fantastic hike!
