Eternal Flame Falls, located in Chestnut Ridge Park, just outside Buffalo, NY, is a truly unique waterfall. The falls contain a grotto that perpetually emits natural gas. When lit, the grotto holds a flame, treating visitors to the falls with a view of such an unexpected combination.
The hike to the falls is short (~ 1 mi.) and relatively easy, with minimal elevation change and obstruction free terrain. However, the last 1/4 mile of the hike involves walking upstream along and sometimes inside Shale Creek. Expect to encounter exposed roots, rocky sections, slick surfaces, and water crossings.
