Parts of the 1947 Cecil B. Demille Film Unconquered starring Gary Cooper and Paulette Goddard where filmed at Seneca Point and a location about 4 mile south on Rt.36 Great old movie worth watching.

A couple of young guys from Goheenville, Armstrong County, were recruited to portray Indians because the Native American actors didn't know how to ride bareback. It seems to me that their families owned a trail ride business near Cook Forest.

@@susankerr9521 That was filmed where the Mysterious Maze is now the stump from the tree they jumped into from the horses was still there about 10 years ago. I think it finally rotted away.

I just posted a picture video on my channel about a month ago for when I hiked the NCT through Cook Forest. Very pretty area. I also couldn't climb to the top of the tower.

Feel the same about fire towers. If you had it to yourself it might be worth braving it. But that many people around is a little sketchy. 👍🙂🙏

That fire tower has stood since 1929. I grew up about an hour and a half away and have been going to Cook Forest since I was two or three years old. We spend a week up there every summer and sometimes a week in the fall. I’m now 72 and have taken my kids and now my grandkids up the tower many times, most recently just before July 4, 2023 and the tower is one place the kids expect to visit every trip. That view from Seneca Point when the fall leaves are at peak color is breathtaking. The hike you took when the Mountain Laurel is in full bloom, usually early to mid June, is gorgeous.

With the fire Tower paranoia, its not the fall that kills you, its the sudden stop at the bottom :-)

My GGrandmother, Elizabeth Cook. Love the park. Been there all my life. It is not rhododendrons, it is mountain laurel. My wife and kids did the hike on the trail 40 years ago. Very steep climb from the road. Thanks for the hike

Went to bed and saw this was uploaded so I watched on the big screen in my pajamas last night. Great hike, trees, etc. Cliff that was one huge fire tower with a (scary) 6 person limit yet. I don't like heights either but climbing all those steps? Yeah, I'll start climbing and somebody may as well call the ambulance or morgue, I'd never make it. Of course that's why you do most of my hiking, I'll be 80 soon. I do walk everyday, my "No-outlet street' loops back on itself and is just under a mile.

Beautiful hike, Cliff. I don't blame you for not doing the fire tower. I was a bit shaky even 20 years ago. I am glad you took folks on this adventure.

I've climbed the fire tire many, many times, the latest of which was in May of 2021. I can assure you that, in spite of how it may look, it is indeed solid and safe to climb. And you are rewarded with an incredible view!!

Cliff: I know you're not a fan of heights. Just watched this video of a man hiking a trail on Huashan Mountain in China. Probably hiking this trail will not be on your list any time soon? kzitem.info/news/bejne/uWmc4GqHjmV6ZGU

At the base of Mohawk trail, there was a trail going straight to the clarion river which was lit by natural gas lights and had supposed sulfur springs. 30 years ago…remnants of the nat gas light pipes could still be found and an area I. The river was walled in with stone inner seats that were all under water…think cold hot tub. I have no knowledge whether it’s still there but it was quite grown up back than…and not sure where there would have been hot springs in the area.

Great hike. Yea I’m not sure about the fire tower either. The limit on 6 people would make me think it’s unsafe.
@bernielamont825

It's not that it is unsafe, they just don't want a large group of adults at the top, it's a little breezy up at the top also, great view if you don't look down.
