Ysaÿe recurrently warns violinists that they should never forget to play instead of becoming preoccupied with technical elements; a violin master "must be a violinist, a thinker, a poet, a human being, he must have known hope, love, passion and despair, he must have run the gamut of the emotions in order to express them all in his playing. And she brings all her brilliance to the violin always.

The story goes, that Ysaye was so incredibly obsessed with the music of Bach that he wrote his solo sonatas in the modern "style" of Bach. The third partita is of such great importance that Ysaye wanted to relate death and eternity, with the partita.

Solo performances are her best. Double stops and chords sounds so touching: it reminds me of her performance of Bach-Chaconne.

she played a wrong note at the end of the first movement of the sonata but it doesn't sound out of place and since Jascha Brodsky was I think the last of Ysayes students, it could be the case, that Ysaye himself decided it should be played this way after it got published already and Jascha then went on to teach it to Hilary this way...

I actually loved that part, I love Hilary Hahn's playing a lot but i've always find that she seeks too much the perfection of the pieces.. while leaving a bit the emotional part behind BUT don't get me wrong, im not saying that she's not emotional, Im saying that she focuses too much in the technical part considering that she already has an incredibly technique, you can see that in her instagram videos on how she studies, but anyway, loved to see her like going off a bit, making it a bit more passionate than perfectionist. (sorry the bad english and sorry too for answering a 4 years old comment lol)

Mr.String Hilary Hahn was taught to not have exaggerated facial expression or flamboyant movements because it detracts from the music. She definitely feels the music and expresses those emotions through her violin. She was one of Jascha Brodsky last students who was Eugène Ysaÿe last student.

Her Chaconne was good but Jascha Heifetz makes her Chaconne seem plain. He has so much more fire in his playing but her's is still amazing.
