I'm a weight weenie with the best of them, but you would go faster with aero wheels. Unless its very steep or your going less than 12 mph, air is still most of the resistance. Kudos to you for fast rolling tires, rolling resistance is the same no matter what the grade.
@david131092
6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Zappala aero wheels? Tell that to the guy who won Cat & Fiddle on Sunday
@jonathanzappala
6 жыл бұрын
Citing a race winner is irrelevant, he could have gone faster yet with aero wheels. I bet he wore a skinsuit rather than just a speedo even though it weighs more.
@david131092
6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Zappala tell that to the virtual Course Record. Most hill climbers can go up anything faster than 12mph but almost none use aero wheels hmm why is that? Maybe because getting over the inertia is a bigger issue than aerodynamics
@georgehugh3455

David Fellows Possibly/probably true, but... The ENTIRE Pro bicycling field thought 19-21mm wide wheels and tires pumped up as high as 160-200 psi were the way to go until a decade ago. Where's the data?

Question: are the races generally around the 2 km distance? Also, what kind of elevation gain is normal in the races? I'm asking because I live in Florida, USA and the highest point is 300 ft and the highest point local to me is a bridge over a waterway.
@G5POrT

Marshall Emmett the shortest I did was 200m @ 30% & the longest was 7miles @ 3%. Normal is 8-14m elevation per 100m.

@david131092
6 жыл бұрын
Rich Mitch if you want my two cents. I only use waxed chains. - they’re lighter by 5g. Stay clean & are super smooth. You sometimes have to adjust your RD if it’s mechanical. The best mix I found is 500g paraffin wax - 1 teaspoon of ptfe powder & 1 teaspoon of Molybdenum powder. & before a TT I’ll brush on a mix of PTFe powder & Molybdenum powder. But you can only wax a chain if it’s perfectly clean & you need an ultrasonic cleaner for this. I stick my chain in the oven too. To dry it & expand the plates slightly.

I don't get the point of a handmade expensive carbon frame for hillclimbs that's heavier than what the big companies are offering. It might be a very good roadbike if you like the looks, but hillclimbs are about shaving grams.
