@Kenny Duthie I do like the mat, it’s quite comfy and the weight distribution is quite good. It does make some noise when moving around although it’s not as bad as the “crunchy” thermarest neoair. It’s also 201cm long and most are shorter.

It’s also good in summer as it got really good ventilation options.

Beast of a tent. My go to tent for winter when out with my partner. It's basically the 2p Soulo in many respects. Many people prefer tunnel tents due to lower weight and increased space, but I've been in them long enough to know that when the wind changes direction and starts battering them from the side they are utterly useless and flap around like crazy.

It's a beast indeed. If you can fit in it then it's great. For me it was too small, especially with a winter sleeping bag. Vertical walls as well as faster setup are my primary reason for tunnel tents, but they do work best when dug into the snow...

@@OutdoorPrep don't get me wrong, tunnel tents are great, it is just i fins them too noisy in the wind when it changes direction especially. I have a nallo 2 which broke a pole when I was getting 70mph winds in Scotland

Yes I learned this fact at 2am with my Nammatj 3GT, not being freestanding , no option to take it down to cater for wind direction change = broken pole ( although I hadn’t double pegged either to be fair)

Thanks for the reviews, very thorough. I actually chose the staika over the allak for my severe weather motorcycle camping tent. I have found myself in exposed areas more often than I want. The Staika out performs the Allak and is a bit easier to pitch. I also find it has more room when laying down for whatever reason.

Thanks 🙏 Yeah it’s more aerodynamic so would be a bit stronger. 10mm poles help a lot too. Compared to Allak 2 the Staika has more ground space. It’s also rectangular and not tapered - so that’s the reason.

@@OutdoorPrep I was actually talking about the Allak 3. I’m 6’1” and my 2 boys are 6’3” and 6’4” and we all have more room at the head and foot in the Staika. I’m starting to think maybe I had a bad tent? I bought the Allak 3 from moosejaw and ended up returning it after not fitting length wise.

@@Oldrush Hmmmm it sounds like there was something wrong with it. The only thing that makes the A3 feel a bit smaller is the sagging wall. It's a wide tent and there's not enough tention in the center. To fix that I just put a stuff sack with spare clothes behind my sleeping mat.

@@OutdoorPrep I think you hit the nail on the head. I do remember it being saggy and trying to think how to fix it. Stuff sacks a great idea. I was overthinking it. Thanks

@@Oldrush I do want to have a better solution for it though. Thinking of attaching a small elastic cord in the center, on the outside. Would need to glue a patch to make it stick. For now the stuff sack works :)

This is the best tent to have in heavy winds and or rocky ground because of it's freestanding nature.

Yeah it’s not the average tent indeed, very purposeful. If you’re going in tough conditions, this is the tent to bring though 💪🏼
