I hear Tortelier play this concerto in London about 40 years ago. Before he played, he stood up and made a speech to the audience. He said "it is impossible to understand a wonderful piece like this on the first performance" and then he gave a little demonstration of the main themes and how they fit together. The critics weren't sure if they liked the speech but I enjoyed it as it communicated his passion for the piece. Good to hear the piece again.

I’ve always wondered how I’d play cello if I ever have children. This is amazing to see. And Alisia is one of my favorite cellists. Had no idea she was a mother :)

I love this performance by Alisa Weilersterin; the using of strings and basoons is awesome. The First Movement: is like an Allegro con Spirito..., the clarinets and the flutes are so "dolce", the fast and low notes in the cello solist are... The Second Movement: is an Adagio with piú Allegro. The Third Movement: is a fantastic marcia, allegro and vivace..., the using of clarinets, timpani and flutes are incredible. I love this masterpiece.

Spannende und lebendige Leistung dieses anspruchsvollen Meisterwerks mit klarem Ton des Solocellos und zurückgehaltenen Töne des ganzen Orchesters. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön.

This is a jolly concerto, melodic, somewhat unorthodox formally, very effective and rewarding. Hindemith was quite at ease, adept at writing this way, and puts me at ease. Who said he was a dry, uninteresting, "academic" composer? I always found his music full of life and personality, as in that magical passage beginning at 19:58 - is he recalling Prokofiev's "Lt. Kije" here? - quite delightful! (I'm sure Alisa's child must love this concerto.)

No manchen va a parir a medio arpeggio!! El pobre doctor que haya estado en la audiencia, ha de haber estado como energúmeno rezando para que no pasara, todo estresado... 🤣🤣🤣😂😂. Por este tipo de cosas te amo Alisa!

This is such a wonderful concerto. So many portamentos here are purely for ease of playing rather than for musical expression. Try Walfisch or Tortelier.
