The essence of Hinduism is Ahimsa(no harm to anyone)and compassion. One can attain Godliness through Bhakti/Karma/Gynanam (devotion /duty/Wisdom)and it is individual 's freedom. And Hindu philosophy is for the entire mankind and it sustained from time immemorial.

A Hindu was flying from JFK New York Airport to SFO San Francisco Airport CA to attend a meeting at Monterey, CA. An American girl was sitting on the right side, near window seat. It indeed was a long journey - it would take nearly seven hours. He was surprised to see the young girl reading a Bible unusual of young Americans. After some time she smiled and we had few acquaintances talk.He told her that I am from India Then suddenly the girl asked: 'What's your faith?' 'What?' He didn't understand the question. 'I mean, what's your religion? Are you a Christian? Or a Muslim?' 'No!' He replied, 'He am neither Christian nor Muslim'. Apparently she appeared shocked to listen to that. 'Then who are you?' “I am a Hindu”, He said. She looked at him as if she was seeing a caged animal. She could not understand what He was talking about. A common man in Europe or US knows about Christianity and Islam, as they are the leading religions of the world today. But a Hindu, what? He explained to her - I am born to a Hindu father and Hindu mother. Therefore, I am a Hindu by birth. 'Who is your prophet?' she asked. 'We don't have a prophet,' He replied. 'What's your Holy Book?' 'We don't have a single Holy Book, but we have hundreds and thousands of philosophical and sacred scriptures,' He replied. 'Oh, come on at least tell me who is your God?' 'What do you mean by that?' 'Like we have Jesus and Muslims have Allah - don't you have a God?' He thought for a moment. Muslims and Christians believe one God (Male God) who created the world and takes an interest in the humans who inhabit it. Her mind is conditioned with that kind of belief. According to her (or anybody who doesn't know about Hinduism), a religion needs to have one Prophet, one Holy book and one God. The mind is so conditioned and rigidly narrowed down to such a notion that anything else is not acceptable. He understood her perception and concept about faith. You can't compare Hinduism with any of the present leading religions where you have to believe in one concept of God. He tried to explain to her: 'You can believe in one God and he can be a Hindu. You may believe in multiple deities and still you can be a Hindu. What's more - you may not believe in God at all, still you can be a Hindu. An Atheist can also be a Hindu.' This sounded very crazy to her. She couldn't imagine a religion so unorganized, still surviving for thousands of years, even after onslaught from foreign forces. 'I don't understand but it seems very interesting. Are you religious?' What can He tell to this American girl? He said: 'I do not go to Temple regularly. I do not make any regular rituals. I have learned some of the rituals in my younger days. I still enjoy doing it sometimes'. 'Enjoy? Are you not afraid of God?' 'God is a friend. No- I am not afraid of God. Nobody has made any compulsions on me to perform these rituals regularly.' She thought for a while and then asked: 'Have you ever thought of converting to any other religion?' 'Why should I? Even if I challenge some of the rituals and faith in Hinduism, nobody can convert me from Hinduism. Because, being a Hindu allows me to think independently and objectively, without conditioning. I remain as a Hindu never by force, but choice.' He told her that Hinduism is not a religion, but a set of beliefs and practices. It is not a religion like Christianity or Islam because it is not founded by any one person or does not have an organized controlling body like the Church or the Order, I added. There is no institution or authority.. 'So, you don't believe in God?' she wanted everything in black and white. 'I didn't say that. I do not discard the divine reality. Our scripture, or Sruthis or Smrithis - Vedas and Upanishads or the Gita - say God might be there or he might not be there. But we pray to that supreme abstract authority (Para Brahma) that is the creator of this universe.' 'Why can't you believe in one personal God?' 'We have a concept - abstract - not a personal god. The concept or notion of a personal God, hiding behind the clouds of secrecy, telling us irrational stories through few men whom he sends as messengers, demanding us to worship him or punish us, does not make sense. I don't think that God is as silly as an autocratic emperor who wants others to respect him or fear him.' He told her that such notions are just fancies of less educated human imagination and fallacies, adding that generally ethnic religious practitioners in Hinduism believe in personal Gods. The entry level Hinduism has over-whelming superstitions too. The philosophical side of Hinduism negates all superstitions. 'Good that you agree God might exist. You told that you pray. What is your prayer then?' 'Loka Samastha Sukino Bhavantu. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti,' लोका समस्ता सुखिनो भवन्तु !!! ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः !!! 'Funny,' she laughed, 'What does it mean?' 'May all the beings in all the worlds be happy. Let there be Peace, Peace, and Peace every where.' 'Hmm ..very interesting. I want to learn more about this religion. It is so democratic, broad-minded and free' she exclaimed. 'The fact is Hinduism is a religion of the individual, for the individual and by the individual with its roots in the Vedas and the Bhagavad-Gita. It is all about an individual approaching a personal God in an individual way according to his temperament and inner evolution - it is as simple as that.' 'How does anybody convert to Hinduism?' 'Nobody can convert you to Hinduism, because it is not a religion, but it is a Culture, a way of leaving life, a set of beliefs and practices. Everything is acceptable in Hinduism because there is no single Authority or Organization either to accept you or to reject you or to oppose you on behalf of Hinduism.' He told her - if you look for meaning in life, don't look for it in religions; don't go from one cult to another or from one Guru to the next. For a real seeker, He told her, the Bible itself gives guidelines when it says ' Kingdom of God is within you.' I reminded her of Christ's teaching about the love that we have for each other. That is where you can find the meaning of life. Loving each and every creation of the God is absolute and real. 'Isavasyam idam sarvam' Isam (the God) is present (inhabits) here everywhere - nothing exists separate from the God, because God is present everywhere. Respect every living being and non-living things as God. That's what Hinduism teaches you. Hinduism is referred to as Sanathana Dharma, the eternal faith. It is based on the practice of Dharma, the code of life. The most important aspect of Hinduism is being truthful to oneself. Hinduism has no monopoly on ideas. It is open to all. Hindus believe in one God (not a personal one) expressed in different forms. For them, God is timeless and formless entity. Ancestors of today's Hindus believe in eternal truths and cosmic laws and these truths are opened to anyone who seeks them. But there is a section of Hindus who are either superstitious or turned fanatic to make this an organized religion like others. The British coin the word 'Hindu' and considered it as a religion. He said: 'Religions have become an MLM (multi-level- marketing) industry that has been trying to expand the market share by conversion. The biggest business in today's world is Spirituality. Hinduism is no exception' He said "I am a Hindu primarily because it professes Non-violence - 'Ahimsa Paramo Dharma' means - Non violence is the highest duty. I am a Hindu because it doesn't condition my mind with any faith system. A man/woman who changes his/her birth religion to another religion is a fake and does not value his/her morals, culture and values in life. Hinduism is the original rather a natural yet a logical and satisfying spiritual, personal and a scientific way of leaving a life..

Whatever the concepts and arts we have in Hindu religion are not specific and compulsory to any independent, but the truth and outcome should be respect, peace, tolerance, honesty, and acceptance and integrity of humanity from any corner of the world. At present on a planet, we need to accept and breed the Hinduism principles and concepts over world religions to overcome the violence and blood bath spreading by fundamentalism.

Hinduism means religious freedom. Nobody insists me to go to temple or worship God. Sometimes I can worship the deities of the temple and get satisfied. But at the same time I can pray the almighty without any images like muslims do. some times I attain the presence of god through meditation. Sometimes through Devotional songs and dance. At any time I can deny the God or criticise the rituals. I'm sure my God will not Punish me. Because Ma Durga is my mother. Krishna is not only a God but my Intimate friend also. SHIVA can't Punish me. Because he is my Saviour. Where ever a Hindu go he can spread the message of Love, happiness and brotherhood. Because the religion taught him, Vasudaiva Kudumbakom.' The Whole World is a Single Family. LOVE THEHUMANITY💚🎊🧡🎊

Regarding caste, all the higher caste people worship lower caste gods like Sree Krishna. You should know that in Bhagavad Gita, the saying goes like this - chatur varnam maya srshtam, guna karma vibhagashah. God created 4 personality types which are according to the gunas and karma of each individual. there is no birth based caste system as per the scriptures except in Manu smriti. Manu smriti has been distorted over the years. Vedas, Upanishads, vedanta, Gita & yoga have the best philosophy mankind has ever produced. Abrahamic religions will take light years to catch up with Dharmic traditions

Hinduism is the only religion (In fact culture) which is not book-based religion, books come into existence by 5000 years ago through meditation (Vedas, etc). Hindus main aim is enlightenment, Liberation, freedom from birth and death. God is secondary to them, In the Gita, God guides him (Arjuna) to enlightenment and righteousness (Dharma) not to stick to him. Hindus are seekers, not believers ( like other religions). Hindus follow karma yoga (good actions). Meditation, Yoga (union with the divine), self-knowledge (who am I), penance, watching breath are primary to them and book/s are secondary to them. Other religions concept is one god exists but Hindus concept is the only god exists in everything and everywhere nothing else. Hindus say body and mind do not belong to you one day you have to leave them. Only your real self is yours find out that you 'll be enlightened. Hindus say all living beings are divine. They say both waking state and sleep state are an illusion(Maya). Actual Hinduism is Sanatana Dharma means an Eternal Religion.

I think you got to research a bit. Firstly, Hinduism is NOT a religion. The word hindu itself is an persian one. A corruption of the river "Sindu", the land of seven rivers "Sapta-sindu" being called as "Hepta-hindu". Hinduism, was classified as religion by persians to denote people of India. Morality rests with culture itself.

there is no inequality in birth as it is written in the vedas, brahmins can become a shudra or a shudra can become a brahmin as it has happened in ancient times like for example sage Valmiki, he was not of a sage or brahmin varna but he did become a sage, when the Britishers tried to translate the vedas they did all types of mistakes and gave the varna system the the name which most of the world knows as cast system, there is no cast system in the vedas.

@Arun Pandi- Dravidian architecture doesn't mean Tamil architecture, it could also mean Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam architecture. You Tamils need to stop overestimating your relevance. Stop listening to the exaggerations almost to the level of lies spread by the politicians of Tamil Nadu's Dravidian parties. For example, the Tamil language is not 5000 years old. There's no scientific evidence to prove that, only lies from Tamil nationalists. The oldest Tamil inscription was from 400-200 BC. Before that it was Proto-Dravidian language, followed by Proto-South Dravidian in the Tamil Nadu area, that is not the same as modern Tamil.

Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created? And the false deities are unable to [give] them help, nor can they help themselves. And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent. Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful. Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite. Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous. And those you call upon besides Him are unable to help you, nor can they help themselves." Chapter 7, Verses 191-197, The Noble Quran.

That is nice but not quite correct - It's one thing for us to say we are peaceful, but then if u don't have weapons, u get conquered & looted. India was once a rich country before the british came - our GDP accounted for 25% of the world's! By the time they left, we were down to 2%. The vultures left as there was no more blood left to drink Same way, our values are different. we don't condemn others to hell just because they are non-hindu. Hinduism has never, ever taught us to Fear God!

The idols did not create this beautiful universe. Human beings cannot give or sort out the power to every idol made by their hand and worship those idols. People cannot make every one god which is not right. This they should realise and come to their senses. Habakkuk 2:18 KJV What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? Isaiah 44:17 KJV And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith , Deliver me; for thou art my god. All the idol worshippers are not hindus. Hindus also one of the idol worshippers, who make different idols like foolish, illiterate Israelites of Mosses time and worship them not understanding THE AL[L]-MIGHTY POWER of THE CREATOR of this Universe. Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, Acts 17:24 KJV God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Habakkuk 2:19 KJV Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. Jeremiah-9:5.And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity . 6.Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD. GOD IS HOLY, PERFECT and LOVING.[Only BIBLE talks about THAT SUPER-POWERFUL-GOD]. Job-37: 5. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend..

Fact is that after centuries of domination by first the muslims & then by the white man, we have come to despise ourselves, our skin color, mentally we have become slaves - the dog that barks at its own kind If the Buddha had been born in Europe or muslim lands, he would have been branded a heretic & tortured to death! His writings burnt, his followers killed! There would be no Buddhism today! No Jainism, Zoarashtrism, Bohra Islam, Sikhism nor Tibetan Buddhism either

With that name & u make deragatory comments like that? If u are not Hindu, may i suggest a change of name? In ancient times a lot of bad things happen - not everything is the responsibility of the dominant religion - how about the bible sanctioning slavery? how about the islamic suicide bombers? How many millions killed in the middle ages because they were not christians? some put the figuere close to a 100 million. And of course the killing of jews over the years
