it’s crazy to me the amount of music festivals lately that have been absolute shit shows. seems like hinterlands wasn’t prepared for the crowds that artists like Chappell would bring as im sure that she was booked before she got SUPER popular. it’s a shame that so many festivals keep making these mistakes that result in people being hurt and disappointed.

I was there with a friend and we left after the first day because we felt incredibly unsafe due to the lack of water, cold food options, ice, extreme crowding, AND THE FACT WE WEREN’T ALLOWED TO BRING IN OUR OWN FOOD AND DRINK (at least on the first day). Like of COURSE people are going to get heat exhaustion. No shade, no reprieve from the heat especially from those who got heat exhaustion and heat stroke. And it was so unorganized and the first aid people were not prepared to deal with it. Currently trying to get my $ back because why did I pay to fear for my life 🙃

I WAS THERE!!! my friend and i drove about 7 hours from indiana and we were only there for day 3. we got to the 1 day parking about half an hour after it opened and there was no line to park or for the shuttle to the gates. by the time we got to the line to get in (GA) the line on the grass was full so we had to line up across the street. the line moved pretty fast once the gates opened, however we were surprised about the lackluster security!! the man took a glance in my bag then i was good to go??? they were also letting everyone go through the ada entrance so it was hard for people who were actually ada to get through. we decided we would try to brave the pit for the japanese house & chappell which may or may not have been a good idea lmao. the performances were AMAZING, however it was VERY hot and VERY crowded. the people in the pit were not very considerate. my friend was excited to see katy kirby, however the girls behind us talked through the whole set!!! people were also trash talking saying hats should be banned at festivals, it was 95° and full sun btw!!! people would also push through saying “their friend is up there!!!” when they were really just trying to get to the front, so we got more and more squished. the crush after chappell roans set was so insane, we almost fell over. THREE people who hadn’t been next to us all day (we were like 2 rows from barricade) completely crammed up literally 2cm away from me. we left the pit and sat the hill to see ethel cain, then it took 30 minutes to exit the confines of the festival because there were no determined pathways at that point in the day. you could either walk through the lawn and try to step over people or go through the area with all the food lines (which were also super unorganized) absolute props to all the people who had to work this festival who were doing the best they could. they were handing out ice and free water in the pit which really saved us! overall an experience i’m grateful for but i don’t think i’d do again. edit: them allowing us to bring in water was a game changer. we brought in like 5 water bottles and my thermos. i felt so bad for chappell roan drinking that river water. she took one sip then looked away from the audience to cringe LOL

I started to HATE the people saying “Oh my friend’s up there” & I noticed that crowd crush after Chappell, where it got tighter (people thought more people would leave) & tbh it only got worse after Ethel’s set was over. My friend was getting worried it could become dangerous (like an actual crowd crush where people could die) so we left after Ethel’s set and watched the rest from the hill (which was a good view tbh!)

My whole experience at Hinterland was so sad and disappointing. I’m from Des Moines, so it’s not like I was unprepared for the heat. I knew it was going to be crowded, though this was a shock. I went Friday, missed quite a few sets because of the insane traffic, and because of the shit experience that Friday was, decided to skip Saturday because I knew Sunday was going to be crazy and wanted to save my energy. Sunday, I got to Hinterland just as parking opened up, and still waited quite a bit in the line once the gates were open. When I got in, there ALREADY were barely any good spots left. We found a decent spot and camped out all day, just to end up being pushed aside and stood in front of by the time Chappell went on. It was easy to feel upset with folks who got their later who stood directly in front of us, on our blanket, or even in my personal space literally touching me-but at the end of the day it wasn’t their fault that the festival was oversold and undermanaged. There was quite literally nowhere for these people to go. There were no paths left. The sidewalks were being used for standing space. We were all taken advantage of for our money. I spent most of the day trying to not think about a crowd surge happening or how I would fight my way through the crowd if I needed to get out. Once Chappell did finally come on for her set, I came to a lovely discovery that I could barely see her anyway, even after showing up early, coming prepared, and waiting just like everyone else. We left after her set disappointed and discouraged from trying to stick out the rest of the day. The worst thing is, this is a bunch of people’s first and/or only experience of Iowa and I hate to think this was your first impression. I promise we’re better than Hinterland!

I live about 20 minutes away from St. Charles and last attended Hinterland in 2022. I was also at Hinterland 2021 and it was an unmitigated disaster, too. They oversold the event despite informing attendees that they would limit the number of tickets sold due to Covid. We camped that year since we didn't yet live so close. The campground and parking was a disaster. I paid for parking, but was forced to park a mile down a gravel road instead and carry our gear in. That Friday night someone's car parked up the hill from us apparently didn't have its parking brake applied and rolled backward, crashing into several cars before it ended up in a pasture. The water and token lines were ridiculously long, too. The toilets were overflowing - imagine a Mt. Everest of poop peaking over each toilet seat. There was a line constantly following the clean out truck all weekend. On top of that, there was a storm one of the nights and a lot of campers apparently didn't even stake down their tents because some of them ended up slamming into our tent. We smuggled beer in the entire weekend and I didn't feel bad about it at all. We returned in 2022 because we bought a house nearby, so we didn't need to camp. That year was much more enjoyable, less hectic, and it seemed that the organizers had learned their lessons from the prior year. That's apparently not the case, though, having followed this year's event and very thankful that I had already seen almost all of these artists in the past. Edit: The festival doesn't have a new owner like you mentioned, either. Same owner, but completely new people doing the actual organizing work.

WHY do venues oversell tickets? Are they trying to emulate Woodstock????
@Budda648
Ай бұрын
@@DrawciaGleam02 to quote the variable Wu-Tang Clan, "Cash Rules Everything Around Me, CREAM, get the money, dollar, dollar bill y'all." It's not about emulating Woodstock '69. No one has aspirations of that. It's just greed. That's why they didn't have local food vendors either. In years past local food vendors would pay a fee to set up shop for the weekend. However, the organizers this year decided to hire out the food vendors to a national org that does this kind of thing for a lot of festivals, and they offer a bigger monetary incentive to the festival. Less money stayed local, unfortunately. I'm honestly blown away that Hinterland was so popular this year with most tickets selling out before Chappell Roan even blew up. Most of the artists were repeats from past festivals. That was why I decided not to go this year.

I was at Lollapalooza day 1 + Hinterland, quite literally kick myself everyday for not just staying at Lollapalooza. We then went back to our tent and me and my girlfriend both collectively agreed to get the fuck out of dodge before one of us got hurt, I felt a million times more safe in the 120 thousand person crowd for Chappell at Lollapalooza than in that tiny festival, 100% would never go again, Just stick to Lolla people!

My sister and I went and camped the first night. We both woke up with terrible headaches (likely from being dehydrated) and decided to check into a hotel for nights 2 and 3. The lines were the worst part of everything. You had to strategically plan for when you were going to try and get to the bathroom or food. They food was awful. I paid like $30ish for a very mediocre BBQ pork sandwich and like two bites of potato salad and Mac n cheese lol. Changing their water policy was honestly a gamechanger for days 2 and 3. They should have allowed it from the start. In my mind they definitely oversold the venue and I’m hoping they make changes for next year. The lineup would need to be equally as good for me to consider going again.

No one directing traffic, no service on our phones to ‘check socials’ like we were told, and I saw about 8 porta potty’s in the venue for, again, thirty THOUSAND people. I knew the heat would be bad (a girl I went to high school with ended up passing out before gates even opened) so we left about 5 and hoped that maybe we'd catch Hippo Campus - SO WRONG. Spent about 3 total hours waiting to park, was told by a volunteer to TURN AROUND to go back to a lot that was full, and was sent a mile back to the end of the line. Had to empty our water bottles. Spent $32 for a double whiskey mule. Left before Hozier's set ended because I just knew the exit was going to be fucked.

Long lines, heat, going to the bathroom behind a tree, music. That is what a festival is. People who cannot handle this should not go. Tips to handle the heat: reduce your amount of clothing and put on sunscreen, rub ice on your body as needed, drink water consistently, but not in large amounts in one gulp. And of course, at that location, you need to find The Tree. If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about. All that said, I am very glad that I experienced this particular festival when it was still smaller. One of my favorite memories was discovering Turnstile!
