I do love it when dressage and figure skating uses popular music. I think it could add a level of complexity if the movements have to illustrate the lyrics or theme of the song somehow, without cheapening the art. I love classical music, too, but soundtrack music would be welcome. I've seen a couple of drill rides set to music from Pirates of the Caribbean etc.

I'm no expert but I am a horse owner, and from my experience I've noticed my horse is heaps happier when she has a job to do (in my case we're starting on barrels) . I think that's the case with a lot of domestic animals, even my dog is happier when I give him tasks and commands. That horse is obviously extremely well cared for and moves lightly and fluidly, I'm sure she's very happy!

I grew up raising horses and doing dressage as well as English pleasure and western events too. Horses that are trained to do these events actually get bored and restless when you miss their workouts! One of my horses would follow me around the stables and the fields bumping me with his nose for me to work with him! He was not happy until we preformed all of his workout training. Similar to dogs in the sense that certain breeds must be put to use or they become lethargic. So no the horses are not in pain and I bet they are treated better than most human kids!

+Anne Haight ... but you can train a horse to perform a piaffe without proper collection. Which many professional dressage riders nowadays confuse with pulling the head in a certain direction. Dressage horses generally flick thier tails often. They are paying close attention to thier rider, concentrating on thier work, etc, all this is manifested by the flicking tail. Plus the tail is partly used for balance and with all these challenging movements they need to be constantly realigning themselves.

After seeing the original video of this, the mare seemed quite comfortable as soon as the performance ended and she relaxed. I don't suspect her of being uncomfortable with her training or performance, but I do suspect her of being a ghost because she literally just floats across the ground. From what I've seen, animals whose training is abusive (e.g. circus elephants) are walking time bombs that go berserk at a moment's notice, usually as soon as the lights come on and the crowd is visible. If the mare wanted to get away she would have thrown her rider and bolted during the performance (as said circus elephants have done before.) Horses aren't exactly the kind of creature easily brought down by the bare hand of a single human. You need a crew of several people armed with riot-grade weaponry to force a big animal to do something it doesn't want. Circus elephants are controlled with polehooks and electric batons. They respond to extreme discomfort or pain the same way any other living thing does - violently struggling. However, I'm a bit concerned about the history of dressage, namely how many horses have broken their spindly little legs in the process of humans figuring out how to make them glide through the fourth dimension like banshees.

***** You really should get your head out of your ass and go help animals that are actually and provably abused like circus elephants. I know whining about fantasies, clutching at straws, and sitting around accomplishing nothing is easier than actually getting shit done, but I'd really think if you cared about animals that much, you would put their welfare above your own prestige and pride.

Oscar Teeling These horses live like kings. They get daily massages and high-end competition feed. If anything happened to the horse a whole team of people would be on it. They're high-level athletes, and you can bet their human counterparts treat them as such. In dressage, they're judged on suppleness and movement. If the horse were in pain, they would not have those two extremely important factors. The horse wouldn't give to the bit and go down on the bridle if he were fighting it, and they spend everyday very slowly developing muscle. If you knew anything about training/tuning horses, you wouldn't be talking like that.

God truly blessed us all with Blue Matinae and Alexander Helgstrand. Both my very favorite team ever! Due to health issues, my life's true live was yanked from my life and dreams. I cry when I watch them. Thank You!!

I must say this is pretty good editing, minus the bit at the beginning where she moves backwards. It's not overdone, it doesn't have a bunch of effects, it's short and sweet with an attempt at looking realistic. You did a pretty fair job of getting the voices out while covering up most of the original music, though I do think that you could have done without so many audience-focused transitions.

This video didn’t age well….. glad to see this horse abuser finally get part of what he deserves. He really deserves a lifetime ban from all FEI sports, but then a whole lot of other abusive trainers would have to be banned as well.

I hate to break it to the non dressage people, but this is NOT the music the horse and rider performed to😂 However, as a dressage rider, I highly approve of this video. I loved watching this and it is damned funny as well. There’s some exceptions, but most riders pick such boring music for their freestyles or something that doesn’t even remotely suit their routine or choreography let alone their horse. We need more freestyles that make the people watching want to dance. It should fill your body with indescribable feelings and emotions while you’re watching the horse execute a powerful extended trot or an airy passage with an enormous amount of lift to music that actually highlights and underlines the movement of the horse. It should be like the horse is creating a blaze of fire with each stride and footfall

People, don't immediately focus on bad reasons, please. Sometimes a horse swishes his tail because he's really putting in an effort in his job. Sometimes he's swishing his tail because he's really concentrating on the task. Sometimes he swishes his tail to express pleasure and contentment.
