@@rickhenderson2970 This is correct, black metal was a rebellion of pagans vs christianity in Norway. That's where the church burnings originated. The dark satanic vibe is more of a gimmick. Many of the hardcore original black metal guys has transitioned to a more pagan music genre later. Current bands like Wardruna came out of this. Gaahl is the man who made that transition first.

First off i think you need to here more Dimmu Borgir and you have to see a live video with the orchestra and symphony. Try Progenies of the Great Apocalypse live nuclear blast video Second this is much better quality then most black metal this is because most black metal bands especially the first few wanted there music to sound raw and bear bones and most black metal uses the guitar as more of an atmospheric peace then as a normal guitar where as this uses the orchestra and symphony for atmosphere Third though the definition of black metal will vary from person to person i would say that black metal is a form of extreme metal that focuses on a dark atmosphere, with good black metal the listener should be able to feel the emotion that the writers had in mind, especially if you can relate to those feelings. Forth that being said black metal is one of the darkest if not the darkest sub genres of metal. Fifth the lyrics very band to band but often deal with political or philosophical ideals witch are often unpopular a lot of black metal bands are anti religious and preach nihilism and misanthropy. and the whole Satan thing for the most part is a metaphor they often use Satan like a mascot for there philosophys . Sixth if you want more black metal after that i would suggest the lyric video for Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer by Behemoth ( i know you have reacted to them in the past but this song is a little more friendly to people that are just getting in to the genre) then Bathory Enter the Eternal Fire, and eventually work your way to Darkthrone Transylvanian Hunger. And seventh if you read this thank you have a dope ass day!

I always try to engage in a way other than suggestions. But I always try to leave at least one suggestion comment as well. (I usually end up leaving 3-4 comments on each video) Just some more black metal suggestions. Cradle of Filth is a pretty mainstream band. They're based out of the UK, but are considered a "Norwegian Black Metal" band. (Same as Dimmu) If you listen to them they have an amazing song called "Nymphetamine". It's a slower song, but it has a woman guest starring on the track and it's a beautiful song. Graveworm - Fear of the Dark. It's an Iron Maiden cover. (Cover of Iron Maiden) Graveworm sounds a lot like Cradle of Filth, and a lot of people mistake the song to be sung by Cradle of Filth. (which you might have to search to find a good quality video/song. Maybe just mention that you know it's by Graveworm, but you had to search Cradle.. You know.) Cradle of Filth also does a great Black Metal cover of Hallowed be thy name by Iron Maiden, as well as Mr. Crowley, by Ozzy Osbourne. It might be cool to do a back to back thing where one day you listen to the original, and then the next you listen to the black metal version and compare them.

I love Dimmu Borgir, but reacting to them as black metal is like a metal head reacting to rap/hip hop and you play Lil Xan, s6xnin9 (or whatever his name is) or one of those mumbling rappers. Please listen to Emperor, mayhem, burzum or even Behemoth. That's black metal. PD Paranormal activity at home after a session of black metal is normal, part of the experience

I got an excellent suggestion next time you react to black metal. Maybe react to Borknagar because I heard them a few times and they are breathtaking for their combination of black metal with clean progressive metal elements basically.

Starts like John Williams but then like he dropped acid. The scream/gutteral verses are actually understandable. Agree, technical.

its pronounced more like dimm-oo bor-gear. I think its named after a volcano or something. FYI they seem to have cut out a bunch of the song in this video. The full song is about 6 mins

“Quintessence” by Darkthrone would probably be normal black metal but it’s quite heavy and long.

I'm glad you liked Dimmu. Traditional black metal is not my cup of tea but I really dig Dimmu Borgir. They have a nice balance that is more listenable while including some elements of black metal.
