On Gondwana, Love is in the air, or should we say, in the water!
Hippopotami engage in mating rituals every other year, with breeding happening consistently but reaching its zenith from February to August. During this period, male hippos skilfully submerge the females in the water, allowing their heads to surface intermittently for breathing. The mating process extends for up to 30 minutes over months, making hippos the only land animals in Africa that mate in the water.
Explore the captivating antics of these fascinating creatures.
