I was tempted to still try and pick it up but my TBR is starting to fill up. Not sure if I could get it done (let's face it, it won't happen. I read too slow!). Thanks for the update Bill. I don't know anything about Chinese History, so that book might suit me fine. Your two new books sound very interesting, but my vote for your next one is Rubicon, as I'm toying with reading it for this quarter. I've just finished The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs for my first read and loved it. My next read is How To Survive in Ancient Rome by L. J. Trafford, which looks like a light hearted fun book. Thanks for all your thoughts and recommendations and wonderful videos. Shell.

New subscriber here. I’m participating in Historathon for the first time this year, and I have already finished ‘Ancestors’ by Professor Alice Roberts, and I’m now midway through ‘Pompeii’ by Mary Beard. I absolutely love Mary Beard’s books. They are very accessible to read, and I always learn a lot from them. Her latest book, ‘Emperor of Rome’ was my favourite book of 2023. Once I have finished ‘Pompeii’, I plan to read ‘Rubicon’. This will be my first Tom Holland book, and I’m really excited for it.

Great to hear Lisa. Thanks for watching the video. I have made a mental note to read the book on Pompeii. My wife has been there before and she said it was totally fascinating. Pompeii is on my list of places to visit as well. I have always been fascinated by it, yet have never gotten around to visiting it, despite holidaying in Italy a few times. Mary Beard’s book is making me long to go there even more. She is so good at bringing the ancient world to life.

A fascinating video, Bill. I am doing Historathon. My first book was Irving Finkel's book on ghosts from cuneiform tablets. It was hard going, as I have only sketchy knowledge of Babylonian, Sumerian and Akkadian culture. It was interesting and fun. Today I shall start a book by Mary Beard. I have a choice of a couple that are unread. I always get her books as they are released. She is always worth a read. Thanks for a fascinating video.

Ah, religious artwork. I can appreciate many expressions from around the world, but my Catholic tastes prefer plenty of blood, sweat, and tears. Bonus points if someone is sweating or crying blood! 🤪 Glad you enjoyed the China book. It's an area I have MUCH to learn about. And that poster is a great idea! I'd go for The Other Greeks simply because it's something I've read less about, but Rubicon sounds great as well. And I love the Folio set, of course. You're doing great with Q1 far. I'm still plugging away at After the Ice. I'm really enjoying it, but it covers so many archeological sites from a vast sweep of times and places that I've had to take things slowly to absorb everything. Despite all that, it's very readable. Well, thanks for the video, Bill. Hope y'all are staying warm.

It is a wonderful tool that opens up the world to my students. My school was actually one of the very first schools in the state of Iowa to go to a one-to-one laptop program several years ago. This allowed all of our students grades 6-12 to have a laptop available to them. Since then, we have extended the technology to our elementary as well.
