Yeah, 18:26 is the point where the real fighting kicked off, but the war really started a ways before that, as we've seen. This is just when the Allies as a whole actually went to war, but as we also know talking about the buildup isn't as sexy as the fighting.

Interesting...if not fun...fact: The phrase was first coined by none other than H.G. Wells himself...in his 1914 book The War That Will End War.👍 That Bill Murray as FDR movie you could not remember was called Hyde Park on the Hudson, and it was set in June of 1939. So while it did involve the visit of the King and Queen of England, it did not really involve him trying to get the US into the war. And in regards to the Lusitania 29:22...that was in May of 1915...and almost got the US into World War I early. There are some excellent alternate history scenarios that revolve around the US getting into WW1 early, and what the results of that might be. Quick thing about Oversimplified...all jokes aside, he is wrong in saying the Pykrete aircraft carrier was scrapped because it was a dumb idea...that is not why the project ended, and in fact the project was not a dumb idea. It was known as Project Habakkuk, and it is worth reading about.

Regarging your Bismarc comment; it passed along the Norwegian coast on it's way to the Atlantic, but the fight with Hood was west of Iceland, and it sank southwest of England. I bet you mix things up with Bismarc's sister ship; Tirpitz, which was based in Norway for most of it's career (and finally sunk by air raids late in the war).

It is always interesting when I come across a channel reacting to Oversimplified that I have never seen before...can't wait to see your take. Unfortunately, there are a couple of spots in this one where Oversimplified oversimplified a bit too much, to the point where the things they say are factually incorrect. Specifically, the script has a line that indicates the German people loved the Schmazis, but that is not true...only some of them did. Shortly after that, Oversimplified gets the history wrong on how the Schmazis actually take power. He suggests that Schmazi popularity "grew and grew" and that led directly to the President making that Corporal the Chancellor, but that is not how it happened. The Schmazi's popularity had an upper limit, and actually fell after it reached that upper limit, but they were still the largest party in the Reichstag...and they used that power to force President Hindenburg to make the Corporal the Chancellor. Also, in the section where Oversimplifed talks about the Czechoslovakians not being allowed to attend the 4 power conference, they make it seem like it was Britain and France that did not invite them...but it was one of Hitler's demands that Czechoslovakia not attend the meeting. Oh...and "The Situation" is the nickname of one of the people on the reality show Jersey Shore...his actual name is Mike Sorrentino, so that was just his pic.

Lol, thanks for watching and the extra information! This is a reason I am a bit worried about doing more content, because there are always people who know waaaay more, or even get their info from very different styles of historiography. Let me know if there are other good ones to check out. I started recording WWI, but did not finish it. My wife is an expert in the revolutionary War, so we may do that one together. I'm actually surprised these do not seem to be getting the views I expected. "History of the world, I guess" actually EXPLODED! Oh well, still very fun to do

@@HistoryBuff Trying again...because eff you YT...history video reactions are not in the favor of the platform, so it seems likely that your videos on history will be very much "hit or miss" as far as viewership. And the platform has steadily strangled and tried to bury ever more history content, so things that you react to that were promoted and popular in the past will now be delisted and pushed into the shadows. Also, it seems like very broad, macro-history stuff like that History of the World" thing is not nearly as effed with by the algorithm as more granular types of historiography, so in this case it seems as if "the devil is in the details."👍

Fascism as invented by Mussolini was meant as a way to make everyone more equal ironically enough. It was meant to get rid of the old school oppression and in many ways it did in Italy, but in Nazi Germany it had the exact opposite effect creating massive discrimination and violent oppression. Today people throw around words like fascism and communism and socialism without knowing what those words actually mean. WW2 was a direct result of the end of WW1 and that's something people often aren't informed about.

So one thing to remember is that we have the power of hindsight. At the time concepts like Fascism and Communism were new and untested. In many cases a country had just a choice of one or the other. So when times got tough and desolate the people turned to the political party making all the promises. When their power became absolute is when things got even worse. Never trust any politician who says they have all the solutions.

Germany was not the bad guy in ww1.. In my Opinion. The allies were very shitty in the first world war. Not to compare with the second world war. The British blockade killed many more civilians than the German submarines. The Germans even warned in public newspapers that they will attack certain civilian ships and that the US people should beware as they will attack this ship. Initially, the Germans even gave the ships plenty of time to evacuate. But they had to stop that later as it made them very vulnerable to consistently saying where they were attacking to protect civilians. The Germans attacked civilians in Belgium because the Belgian soldiers disguised themselves as civilians to surprise the Germans. The Germans didn't just invade Belgium. They asked beforehand if they could go through peacefully. You have to see this war from every side as there was no good or bad. Just like before the war. The Germans felt attacked from all sides. Just as Russia was rearming, it was over. The USA was not "neutral" either, as is often said in American schools. Most American settlers were German, yet the US consistently supplied the Allies and broke their neutrality. They tried to ban German language and culture. Every piece of German was removed. Although the settlers had nothing to do with the country politically. For the fact that the Germans made the USA more or less great by producing the largest families in the USA or inventions like jeans or the beginning of the gold rush, they were hated and sometimes even chased away. Not a single president stood up for this group of Americans, who really did something for the country with their working-class mentality. Allied propaganda made everyone in the world hate the Germans. All the great powers allied against the Germans and yet the Germans almost won. It was a period of weeks. If the usa had entered the war a few weeks later.. it would have been dark for the allies. Despite the British blockade, which left the Germans without supplies and one planet against them, the Germans almost won. Shows how overpowered they are. After the war they were held responsible for everything. But we're talking about the bad bad Germans. Don't get me wrong, the Germans screwed up too. But they also had to fight against a planet. That doesn't justify the actions, but makes it more understandable. It's also pretty funny that he said that "Power would catch up with them" even though the USA only got the atom bomb from the German scientists. Like Albert Einstein or, earlier, Otto Hain.

The one thing Oversimplified got wrong in these is the French Maginot line Its not that the French didnt bother extending it to the coast, its that they could not afford it because it was too expensive They actually did plan to extend it the entire way and it was planned to be twice as fortified, not only that but the Maginot line was actually using state of the art fortifications which German troops never managed to penetrate until they got around it and so the line was extremely effective despite being under-fortified compared to its original design, what won Hitler the battle of France was very much Rommel's lightning war theory alone It bothers me a lot that he got most of this fact wrong Also i wouldnt worry too much about the whole historian thing, im a history nerd and i know as much about ancient Rome and the great wars as the scholar next door since these eras are very much the center of my interest and curiosity but even history nerds dont know everything about history

Your comment at the beginning about World War 2 being one of the most studied topics in all of history is entirely spot on...but unfortunately an alarmingly large portion of things that people "know" about WW2 are actually wrong, and also unfortunately some of them make it into these Oversimplified videos. I have already posted a few things in answer to your questions and comments, but I wanted to talk a bit about the fact that there are still many myths pretending to be facts about WW2, because it seems like there might be a few things you have been taught about Germany in between WW1 and WW2 that are not really accurate. So many people believe that after WW1, Germany had an unbroken period of utter poverty and denigration, but a great deal of that is just not true. For instance, it is true that Germany had a huge economic crisis in the early 1920s as a result of hyperinflation, but it is also important to know that the crisis was over by 1924 with the introduction of the new Rentenmark in late 1923. So Germany did get to participate in the "roaring Twenties" after the inflation crisis had passed, a period of time I believe they referred to as The Era of Fulfillment. It is also important to know that the Weimar started massively printing money to pay down Germany's own debts for all the costs of the war they had borrowed to pay for in 1919...the reparations payments did not start until 1921 or 1922. In addition, one of the stipulations of the reparations payments was that they could not be paid in paper currency, so the Weimar Republic was not printing money to directly pay reparations at all. The reparations and other terms of Versailles definitely did not help Germany and did make things worse, but they were not the primary driver of German economic misery. 👍💯

Honestly I think the Roman Empire fascination is mostly an American thing. It's not really a huge history topic in much of the world. Jesus is more of a religious thing so that's only partially history. WW2 however does seem overly studied and focused on across the West. That said American education generally isn't very good at much historical education even their own which is a shame because history is amazing.

America was not that worried about Fascist dictators, In fact they backed a number in the 60s to keep comunists out of many countrys. Don't forget Hitler declared war on America not the other way around, America still wanted to stay out of WW2. Now you can moan how bad Hitler was, but did nothing when needed. The land of the free wished to stay that way and leave damocracy just for them. Now we all seem to want the same thing on the whole, which is why Europe and the USA get on, sort of.
