Art restorers would not have a problem with fixing the damage since the way an oil painting is prepared with a rabbit hide and white lead ground means you can just collect the pieces and any shards of oil paint and reassemble it by placing it face down on a molten wax table and letting it cool, then dissolve the rabbit hide glue and throw away the slashed canvas and replace it with a sheet of glue that looks like a sheet of yellow paper and a new canvas and then iron the new glue onto the back and melt the wax bath again and use solvent to take off the excess wax and spray paint and varnish and getting down to the pigments, redo the final transparent varnish. All in a days work for an art conservator. You have to replace canvasses every thirty years or so anyway because they rot over time, but the ground and pigments are basically for centuries.

@@user-uv2bd7ee3q It depends on the spray paint. But surely it makes the restauration more complicated. They have to analyse the used paint and check the mix with the oil paint. This alone could easily costs some thousand pound and could take some months. The work itself could not start before the necessary research is done. If I remember correctly the restauration of another picture with similarily damages some years ago takes more than 3 years. Estimate the costs only for the hours of work!
