Just wow... WOW!! Fantastic!!! So what wood species did you make this out of - original specified woods by the carpenter of the time or 'X'? I was trying to CAD all the ribs of my ship to make 3D representations of each rib section so I can have a model of where I came from and where I was going... This is just amazing! How long did it take you to fully realize the hull put together? Did you peg & spike them together? This sooooo inspires me to get back onto "The Project"!! Thank you for sharing!!

brilliant work and done with skill, not high priced workshop tools. Electric planer fixed into a simple jig to get repeatable thickness, drill powered saw and sander, and a good pair of hands with attention to details. These magnificent jewels of the sea were built with what is considered nowadays as basic tools so why shouldn't the models be.

To: D H CRAFT - Indeed, they were and in Britain, with special thanks to Admiralty practice at the time, we are fortunate enough to draw on the bonus that identical models of the ships were produced as sample submissions before they were commissioned, using the same methods.

Hi Nodari, I think it is normal for ship model builders to help each other. You can buy the original plans there: ancre.fr/en/. I don’t use the original, because their measure scale is too big and it doesn’t work for me. Therefore I got altered plans from my friend and fellow model builder. Even though I am 50, I am still beginner and it pleases me to hear, that my work inspires you. I wish you success and good luck. Petr

Hello Petr, This is beautiful work. I plan to build Le Belle 1684 from plans by Jean Boudriot. Would you tell me how you determine the height of the upper plate of the building site from the bottom of the key? The information would greatly assist me. Thanks Dennis

Hi Deniss, I’m glad my video was able to help you. It is its main purpose, after all. As for your question, I don’t use the key, because I had the original plans adjusted by my friend. He uses program Autocut. I’m sorry that I can’t help you, but I wish you good luck with La belle. Brandl

Hello Petr Thanks for your reply. I didn't mean "key" but "keel". Bad typing. I found from Gerard De LaCroix , a master builder on the French web site that you place the upper plate at the water line of the widest point, in the case of Le Belle number 7. Cheers Dennis

Would it float? If you put ballast in it? :D Amazing by the way.
@user-lv7ph7hs7l
7 жыл бұрын
You can make any wooden model boat float if you built it with waterproof glues/paints etc.. and add ballast. The question is if you are really willing to risk a years work or more. I´m on my first model and I´m considering doing an RC one in maybe 3-5 models but it´s pretty complicated, you can´t just steer the rudder, you need to be able to turn all the sails.

What wood do you used ?
@petermoody6147
5 жыл бұрын
To: La Malbie - A lot of the wood used in model-ship building are of boxwood (buxus) or what is known as 'fruitwood' (trees that bear fruit, such as cherry, apple, lime, etc). Woods like these are chosen because of their tendency of fineness of grain, lack of blemishes and relative hardness.

awesome work I had seen the french version of the monographie and was amazed so today i ordered it in english. am starting to draw up the plans in solidworks so that I have a digital copy but also so I can use the 3D cad to make my cuts and understand how it goes together before I waste a good piece of wood. so it will kinda be like I draw make sure its roght then cut wood rinse and repeat. I love your video I will watch it over and over til my book arrives I am in limbo as i need to start keel but dont know the rabbet size or the depth of the cuts for the frames yet (( I am so ancy to start hehe but just thinking of having this entire ship in 3D and wood im drooling to get started
