THIS is why you just don;pt scoop everything up and just throw it out. THIS personal stuff from your Great Grandmother's one purse, is awesome and so much on your family, Robert, so happy you found this, and hope you continue to find more history of your family and ancestors as you go and clean out each room, am sure there is a lot more that you have yet to uncover and discover. Looks like a great day for cleaning at the OBF. Can't wait to see more of what you find. God bless..

Robert, Someone is pranking you, who amongst your friends would do that?? Hmmmmmmmmmm. I love the fact that everyone looks out for everyone in your small town and people are mostly quiet spoken. History is everywhere if you take the time to find and research it. I spent summers travelling the country back in 1968 and 1969 and every small town had someone who knew the history and wanted to share it. You are uncovering yours, piece by piece. Cheers, Rik Spector

I love how excited you are about family history. I got a little scratch notebook of my Granddad's, some handwritten poems from my great grandmother and handwritten recipes from my Granny. No one else wanted things, and I was trying to get to them before they got thrown away. It makes me happy to see someone else feel the same way. Keep looking through every piece-I am enjoying seeing what you find! But you are making me nervous on that floor; the nurse in me is seeing all kinds of injuries from this!

I know the feeling of desperation very well. My aunt lived in the family ranch house from the time she grad college (during WWI) and came home to teach at the local high school. The clutter was very organized, and she kept a clean house - but there were at least 2 trunks holding possessions of family members who died young in the house's basement. They were a time capsule of their lives. My aunt had allowed me to snoop through them when I was about 12 y.o. Fast forward to the clean out of that huge, 5 bedroom,1920s era craftsman style house which I was somewhat rudely invited to not attend. I was sure no one would throw away the contents of the trunks. But somehow no one could recall what happened to my 20 y.o. uncle's love letters with a girlfriend. He was shot over a land purchase he and his dad had been lured into. There were newspaper clippings of the trial of his killer and other of his possessions in one of those trunks. Years earlier his older brother had died in his late 20s, bushwacked out in lawless NM (before it became a state) by his wife's lover. My heart was broken. I wished I'd never known about those trunks. Both young men were my grandmother's brothers. I suppose she kept them from the time of her mother's death. Her dad had moved in with her family a while before he died. No one in our family ever admitted to seeing the letters and papers, or knowing of their existence. I didn't raise a big stink. I 🤐 for 50 yrs. Finally a couple of cousins (sisters) approached me with questions about my grandmother's wedding dress and black wool coat with brown mink collar. Then I knew who had been the culprit hiding the murder trial newspaper clippings of my grandmother's brothers. I always suspected my prim and propper uncle who didn't want anyone to know about family tragedies. I had agreec to meet with these two female cousins around the time of the c-19 outbreak. I took it as a sign. Who knows, they may practice the same philosophy of secrecy as their dad. I don't owe them anything. They still haven't admitted having the contents of the trunks, but I know the wedding dress was inside one of those trunks. I may give them the same treatment. What silly games some play. The purse Robert found caused a flood of memories. Why would anyone think family history should be hidden from future generations? I'm still puzzled.

You are truly blessed. If I understood you correctly, if is your families home? I really wish I was this blessed. I have been working on our family history for awhile now, years. I have found many cool things, but this is fantastic. I once went to two different local yard sales, I found a year book with my ex mother in law in it, and purchased for her. The second yard sale was around the corner, and I purchased a old book that actually ended up from a past cousin of mine from the late 1880s/1900s. A true treasure, I also have my great great grandma's bible that my 90 year old cousin gave me. He is like you, blessed with his family home, (he grew up in it) that is well over a hundred years old, with so many treasures. Kudos to you!

That purse is really very interesting. And the documents in it are very cool. I don't know if someone else has said this, but the card that talked about classifications could have something to do with WW1 that ended during 1918. It is so great to hear your happiness in finding these things. I hope there are areas of the house that you can secure, because someone is gaining access and I can think of a few ways. Really worry about you keeping all that you have worked so hard for. Take care of yourself and from what I remember that area has decreased in size by at least 2-3 feet in depth and maybe 8-10 feet in length and that is a lot of work.

I heard a funny story about a man who tried to get some gas, they alternated by last number on the tags. the first day he went it was the even day{but you still needed the stamps} went up the attendant said you can not get gas today, your plate is odd number, so he went back the next day to be told again, you have an even number once he took a look at his front them rear tag the numbers did not match! one was odd, the front was even!
