Born and raised in sunny side. Had to leave due to increased stress and anxiety. My neighbors were not even from sunny but made the neighborhood worse.

I was in Southeast Houston and was appalled by the lack of improvements. It's like it's not even a part of the city. It's obvious investment dollars are only given to the area around Westheimer and everything West

I consider this actually the opposite of black history - this wasn’t the doing of black people, it wasn’t for our benefit, and in fact has resulted in how many parts of the city now being on the edge of blight?

I've just started going to the are this year because of slab Sunday it's always chill granted yes there are a lot of people walking around allday but those people aren't messing with anyone. Plus I actually like seeing people outside vs when I was living in boring as Katy 😫 couldn't even get aquatinted with your neighbors or anything. People are so nice and friendly in Sunnyside

I honestly just started going to the area months ago because of slab Sunday. I like the area it still has alot of soul. It just needs fixing up. Like someone else said it doesn't even look like part of Houston. Cullen, scott, MLK down on that end the roads. Also the businesses over there are just taking advantage of the area! Why is there soooo many motels in that area.....!!! Make it make sense. Alot of the has stations on cullen are ran down with old products on the shelves that's been sitting on shelves for years!!!! The area is soo ran down. And i honestly would like to move close to the area. Mainly because of the horse riding I see over there the fun i see on weekends. Also i love all the trees as well in the area plenty of potential but of course its gonna get GENTRIFIED 😊

It seems like redlining had the effect of keeping the nice houses and neighborhoods nice while proving itself as a net positive.
@teebone2157
Жыл бұрын
It's not really a net-positive when you have a whole separate class people who get no Investments, their communities get no dollars from the City for improvements in infrastructure, they don't get any dollars for upkeep of the roads, they don't get any dollars for improvements for the schools

Isn’t sunny side known as the most violent area of Houston? That’s why insurance companies won’t cover and banks won’t lend for real estate because there is NO property value increase. Developers see cheap properties they can buy up in Multiples. It happened in the heights, 1st ward and it’s starting in 3rd ward. Not sure there’s any racism there. The developers control where the next move is. Use Austin as an example. Gentrification only happens After developers have started increasing property values, that’s when property taxes go up. A simple Real Estate marketing course will show this.
