Once again we can say with joy ... "Mission complete!"
Our family has a new and heavy relic: we have transported over one hundred tons of rolling stock from the slopes to the plan of the Soratte Bunker ..... and a hundred tons of History of our territory!
After years of negotiations and correspondence with the Regione Lazio Region and Atac Rome, we managed to save two truly unique railway vehicles from destruction and that for over 70 years have traveled the railway that passes under the bunker on the slopes of Soratte.
The n ° 01 locomotive of the Tecnomasio Italiano Brown Boveri, the first of the Roma - Viterbo Line and the "S101 Saloon Carriage", better known as "Carrozza di Mussolini", which in 1932 inaugurated the Rome-Viterbo railway, recently built by the Roman Society for the Northern Railways - SFRN.
In this carriage, in addition to Mussolini, in the following years various personalities traveled including Salvatore Quasimodo and Eugenio Montale and, on several occasions, the same carriages served as background in various cinematographic films.
With an effort that we leave you only imagine with this video ..... we managed to bring these vehicles to a site where they will continue to travel on the "rails of memory"
through which they will talk to many, especially young people, of the History of our territory.
And from Soratte, these "retired" carriages, vandalized and that nobody wanted any more, will see from above their young “steel companions" continue their daily service on those old railways tracks ... a bit like our grandparents do from heaven isn’t it?
For those who will have the opportunity to take the Rome-Viterbo railway, after Rignano Flaminio it will be enough to look up at the heart of Soratte to see them once again!
We would like to thank all those who collaborated in the success of our mission, first and foremost the Regione Lazio which, as the owner, immediately believed in our project and in our enhancement proposal, free from all ideology and solid in perspective and message.
We thank Atac s.p.a., who made available men and means for these vehicles to arrive from Viterbo to Civita Castellana and then to Magliano Romano.
We thank the employees of Atac s.p.a. that made us enter their small and tiring world, often at night, thanks to which an ancient railway still stands ... and with their passion and their emotional participation as well as physical they made us understand how important it was also for them this recovery of ours: Thank you very much "worker-boys of Rome-North"!
Thanks also to the company Geotrasporti srl that made exceptional transport possible from Magliano Romano, at night, to the Via Flaminia by climbing the Soratte along the old military road until it was laid on the ancient tracks and the ancient sleepers skilfully installed by the company Costruzioni Strade Ferrate srl.
Thanks to our boys and our girls ... who have guarded these carriages at night for over a week against the last vandals, convinced that - just restored - this train will be able to get straight into their hearts too: beauty will also save you, be sure of it!
For us at the bunker it is a fantastic mission accomplished, a concrete answer to so much talk .... but it is above all a serious commitment to restore and present these pieces of history of our places to the public that will decide to come and discover us in the coming years!
Ad maiora.
