With Tom Erbe, who was a faculty at @calartsofficial (1993-2004), we discuss the unique history of the Center for Experiments in Arts and Information Technology. Recording from 08/11/2023. The main points/questions featured:
1) When you joined CEAIT? Who invited you in? What were your responsibilities at that point?
2) To your extent, what was the main purpose of the Center? The core of its activity.
3) Did you have a chance to attend or participate in any of the CEAIT events at Electronic Cafe?
4) What do you see as the driving ideas/ideals behind CEAIT?
5) How this convergence of Art and Technology was received at CalArts? Were you accepted and supported?
6) Could you recollect some of the innovations that the CEAIT produced during your time as a member?
7) Do you know anything about the Mars proposal?
8) What was the relation of the Cage exhibition to CEAIT? Or just a non-formal affiliation as far as David was involved?
9) When did you take over directing CEAIT? With Mark Trayle, as far as I understand.
10) Since you have a unique timeline with respect to CEAIT, could give a perspective of how different was the early stage in the history of the Center (associated with the Trio) from the later stage when you, Mark, and Clay were most active? After Morton and Mark left and David got consumed with deanship. From the late 1990s on let's say.
*Is there anything I missed to ask about that you would like to bring up? Any names, dates
