What does professional policing look like in the 21st century? This is the third episode in the series about the history of Netherlands police. In this episode, we take a look at past centuries' twenties and thirties, when the police was confronted with an overload of information. The typewriter, the operations centre and the index card box were introduced, as well as fingerprints and traces on the crime scene. This film shows how the police, to exploit all these new resources of information, had to acquire new skills and find a new guideline for criminal investigation: the concept of ‘modus operandi’. I.e. a specific method or approach. In addition, the film shows how the current police force is finding its way through this overload of physical and digital traces in criminal investigations by implementing reconstruction through scenarios and counter talk.
