No actually it built empathy in a way. Jack was so kind and the audience felt it too...

Is there any way to contact those who participated in making this film? My mother, whose name was Florence Irons back then, won Queen for a Day sometime during the Korean War. I doubt I would find footage, but it would nice to find photos or memories. She gave away children back then due to her circumstances, & I only met my half-sisters as an adult. I'd love to share anything available with them.

My mother was Queen for a Day ,the last winner in1959. I would love to know if there is a recording of this show. Her name is Jenny Armijo, a wonderful mom to 14 children.

My mother won on Queen for a Day, too. 1958, if I remember right, when I'd have been 6 or 7 years old. She won a trip to Lima, Peru, of all places, and I remember that they hired a grumpy baby sitter for us kids for the time she and her friend were on the vacation.

does anyone know if the losers were actually helped behind the scenes or by people that saw them and made contact for donations? or did they simply lead away the losers with a toaster and that was it?

We just learned that my husband’s grandmother was on the show and they gave her 12 kids shoes. Would it be possible for you to help us find her episode? It would be so meaningful. Thank you.

I wondered how they selected the ladies. Most of the ladies had a lot of children.

I used to sit with my grandmother and watch this show. The women competed for the most pathetic story.

I won princess for a day Christmas 1963.i was 8 years old. About 2006 my son bought me a double cd .it had alot of queen for a day contestants on and the taped shows. I was so excited trying to find the show i did and i called the makers of the cd. They told me that alot of the flim was damaged So if i wasn't on the ones they had, then mine would be part of the damaged film. It made me sad. My son worked in film and he was working at Nickelodeon studio and the did a special honoring of the show queen for a day So all the queens, kings and princesses Had the 8x10 photos all displayed. He said it was done nicely I still have my 8x10 photo with jack Baily. He was a very kind man.

This show strikes me as very cruel. The women had to compete for whose back story was saddest... what about those women who didn't win? not only did they get nothing but they had exposed themselves on national TV

lol I am white and were dirt poor and did not even have food most of the time. I did not have indoor plumbing until I went to college. You are watching too much TV and nostalgia about how prosperous the times were back then. A LOT of people were dirt poor... of all races and skin colors. Someone always has to try to bring race into it.

@@gilbertsanchez3277 I actually thank God for the way I was raised because it taught me to make do and to have compassion for those in need. I would not know the same joy in giving if I did not know how exciting it was when someone gave us food. Of course I remember it in the physical sense but God has graciously healed the hurt and given me His peace and joy. I just really hate to see people bringing racial divide... of course it was bad. I lived through the 50s and 60s. But we need to move beyond that and just see each other as equals. Not saying you were doing this in you comment... not at all. But there are a LOT of people in this country doing their best to stir things up. God made us all the way He wanted us. :)
