The aerial footage of the Normandie: what wonderful things people can do; an achievement in technology and beauty. Seeing the Ile de France footage makes me think of how the same places would look in "The Last Voyage. And the aerial view of the Liberte in fog: never saw anything like that. Thank you for this treasure chest of film and photography--and the music is very nice too.

It's amazing to see what people can do. It's amazing to see what used to be. With the world ruled by technology nowadays, it's only a matter of time before our tech fails and we're stuck in the dark not knowing how the heck to do anything.

@Andrew Brenden Those ships were really marvels in every aspect. My grandfather worked for the French Line his whole life and when he heard of the fire on the Normandie, he went down to Pier 88 and broke down in tears that his baby had sank, and that all he could do was watch. Even after she capsized, whenever he referred to the Normandie he would say MY ship, thats how much of an impression ships like those had on people.

I know that "NORMANDIE" was the greatest liner ever built and all, but there's something about the cozy "ILE DE FRANCE" and her marvelous interiors that draws me to her. Especially after the post war refit. She held the record for the most first class passengers ever carried upon her inception and took the CGT to record breaking profits. What a treat it must have been to cross the pond aboard this magnificently decorated ship with the well to do of her time .....

OlympicWS, This last piece of music makes me tear up. I love my France Norway and I miss her everyday. The World is cold without her.

A shame to see that all of these amazing liners were scrapped or sunk. A magnificent line, CGT was.

Tyler Frederick Could you honestly say the France of 1912, to be a Good ocean liner? It rolled in flat calm seas, it's interior was a gaudy reconstruction of the already then gaudy Baroque revival, it's exterior could be akin to a glorified bathtub. The only thing beautiful about her, was the hull they designed for her.

Yes, I consider the France of 1912 to be a good Ocean Liner, despite her flaws.

Tyler Frederick Shame her flaws outnumbered her better things. Comparing it to liners that the French line would later create, and ships of it's era, such as the Olympic and Lusitania, she did not fare well with style.

I talked to one man who worked the New York City piers. He said that of all the ships he was on the Normandie was the most beautiful. He had nice things to say about the 1962 S.S. France also. Yes when it came to style and class the French Passenger ocean liners were at the top !

As ship lover most of my live I'm grateful to OlympicWS for all these wonderful films. Regrettably my love for ships is only in retrospect now, cannot stand these modern abominations (Except maybe for QM2 though she leaves much to be desired against her former namesake)
