Had no idea the paddle-wheel steamboats lasted well into the 20th century, but come to think of it, why shouldn't they? They seemed very well suited to their back-country river environment - shallow draft, no propeller to foul, plenty of wood fuel available along the banks.

Robert Fulton 1807 it was 100 feet long By 1883 they had boats that were like the titanic but just smaller

And the SS Savannah was an American hybrid sailing ship/sidewheel steamer built in 1818. She was the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean... 1818!
