Saw this link on the time line of an old lecturer of mine. He was talking about fleeing the house dressed up as a girl to avoid being attacked by the IFP during this. I remember hearing about it growing up, but if course, not in school! Only from people who vaguely remember. I couldn't believe someone I knew and held in such high regard went through this but the skin of his teeth and I never learnt about this in school? But I do know Jan van Riebeeck came in 1652 with the dromedaris and oliphant and what what, built a fort, 9 years later built another fort with five points, oranje, Nassau, etc... I SINCERELY hope history education has changed since I was in school! I just want to cry when I see this.

I remember growing up in Sebokeng before the 1994 elections, our parents did not allow us to play in the streets, because Ma-Inkhata were going around killing people in the township. We would hear things like " Ma-Inkatha a tla", and everyone would run into their houses and lock themselves in. I don't know if that would have helped had they eventually came!

Looking at this video and how they would break down the doors and break in, I don’t think locking yourselves in would have helped. Thank God you all stayed safe. My Gogo would tell me stories of how they would have to hide when Inkatha came or they would be killed. Once, she had to hide in a huge dumpster and they actually managed to turn it over, but she was hidden by all the rubbish, thank God. The Apartheid regime was the devil himself and Inkatha were a seed of Satan conspiring with them against their own people.

And perhaps you can tell all of us why we fled Soweto to study all over SADC in 1986? That was long b4 Zone 6 hid from hostel dwellers they provoked. For when scholars and residents allowed comrades to use them as human shields, fronting them to go destroy hostels, were they expecting hostel Zulu men to go down without a war - hostel men came from Zululand and knew war. Your ANC sacrificed you dearly. Violence did not start in 1990 when hostels retaliated, that is easy to see, for not even Maki Skosana was burnt alive then. She was burnt in broad daylight by the ANC in Duduza in 1987/6. That was the time IFP folk were dying in droves. Nope, you did not experience being burnt alive rest assured.

In the early 1990s the Anc started a campaign of intimidation and terrorism against Inkatha and Azapo. In Zambia the Anc in exile had decided this strategy of violence so as to get rid of rival organizations and become the sole major political party after the end of apartheid. But everytime Inkatha responded to those violent actions, they were portrayed as killers, while the Anc were considered the good guys no matter what. And the western countries totally believed the Anc. That was propaganda.

If ANC supporters were coming to attack the Zulus at their hostel, didn't the Zulus have the right to fight back? It was actually ANC supporters who started the war against Zulu migrant workers in 1976 when they tried to force the Zulus to join a strike. The Zulus refused and said they couldn't afford to lose wages, so the ANC supporters attacked some Zulus on they way home from work. @@phakisho6761 Absolutely mtakababa, there is no place for cowards in this earth, there only language that politicians comprehend better indluzula if they gave Buthelezi what he demanded that death of thousands could've been avoided, instead Mandela they issued an order to kill Inkatha protesters at Shellhouse and Inkatha defended itself fiercely. Prince Buthelezi was a tribal politician that is why his interests were based in kwaZulu and his Party is dominated by amaZulu. They should've just given him his autonomous Zulu federation, we wouldn't be in this messed up country today.

@zweliniMqwebu6853 Nonsense, white people tried to divide us, giving Buthelezi what he wanted would've further divided us even more. Black people needed to unite against the apartheid government, not fight each other. Buthelezi was a warmonger, who was power hungry and wanted to rule by any means possible. He was used by De Klerk and co to fight his own people so that Black people could appear as if they cannot govern, if you think KZN would've been better under Buthelezi, you don't really know what you're talking about.

It's either you have low I.Q or no brain cell at all but I suspect it could be both. No one in their right mind would be proud of this. Inkatha was defending itself against who exactly ? Innocent civilians? Non Zulu South Africans ?

IFP with the help from the apartheid police ambushed innocent people and no one has taken accountability for that.. No one is saying anything because Mangosuthu is still alive! All the cowards will be making noise as soon as he's no more!

Maibstream media created a narrative so far from the actual truth. Who were the real perpetrators you can see clearly police did what they could. But you can see the truth it's still happening today the history of South Africa is the history of the factionalism and the unfortunate casualties. Apartheid was peaceful compared to the lives we've lived ever since. People had decent homes then what did the ANC do to this country so many people died for more suffering that is the ultimate crime ANC is responsible for their own peoples suffering for more than 30 years.
