This character reminded me so much of my grandfather, a tough old farmer who survived all kinds of ridiculous wounds - from grisly chainsaw accidents, to large branches crashing down on his head while felling trees, getting his chest pinned against a tree by a tractor going DOWNHILL, etc. He had a massive but slender frame, dense wiry muscle with thick skin, hands twice as big as any of ours, and I dare say was *one* of the strongest men to walk the earth. He'd lift thick logs that a few other men working with him couldn't lift *together.* He worked harder and more productively in his 70's than most men worked in their 20's. What finally killed him wasn't a physical wound, or hardly even old age, but losing his wife of 50+ years, and not having the will to continue on any further. Family was everything to him, and he lived to provide for his wife and several kids on his homestead for several decades. He'd had a weak heart for quite a long time before he turned 80, when his wife was still alive, but still worked just as hard as ever. It was a few months after my grandmother died that his heart finally gave out, after he'd spent those months being depressed, and noticeably done with this world. When he collapsed against the bathroom sink, he broke a towel holder on the side of the sink, and was still trying to fix it up until the moment of his passing, his work ethic still intact. I've yet to become aware of a more honorable and stoic man than him, and my children and grandchildren will know of him, as well. Stories like Tostig's only make me appreciate having known a man like that more.

See the problems with fighting the vikings is that you're not fighting men.. their purpouse in life is to bring honor to their ancestors in battle by pleasing the will of the gods and thus ascend to Valhalla. They spent their entire lives since the day they were born training, fighting and raiding. How do you fight a man without fear, a man that is expecting to die in battle against a worthy oponent. The thought of having to face such warriors must have been bone-chilling...

He must have been something to behold in battle during his youth... undefeated in combat and even at this age nobody could take his head in one on one... they had to get him from behind.

They could have kept him along a while longer and give him more badass death, but he was still a pretty cool character.

Ite I'm sick of people claiming Bohdi Sanders' quote as their own words of wisdom. Here's the full thing: “Beware of an old man in a profession where men usually die young. Old warriors did not get old by accident; they got old by being wise, having the right knowledge, and being tough. Never underestimate an old man who has grown up in a rough profession or a rough environment. These men have been around. They have done things, and experienced things, that you probably have never even thought about. They are tough, their minds are tough, and they have the knowledge, the skill, and the will to finish you off, if you force them to do so. A boy will fight you, but an older man will hurt you.”

When he survived, and Ragnar asked "what ails you" "the gods won't lift my curse" and Ragnar kissed him on the head. He probably wished he had 100 old men just like him...

Now that I think about it, Tostig was actually the most metal character in Vikings. They had to get him from behind, and he was actually _happy_ about it!

guys the reason there's shitty music over the video is probably to avoid a copyright strike so take it easy.

Actually no, fair us allows 10 minutes of a show to be shown.

It isn't one size fits all. 10 minutes may be considered fair use depending on how long the original show is and whether those 10 minutes essentially take the best part of the original. 'Vikings' has about 44 minutes of air time so you might be able to get away with those 10 minutes but you have to look at the rest of the four factors as a whole and balance them. Think about it. There are television shows that run for a half hour but with commercials there is like really 20 minutes of air time. If you put 10 minutes of that online that's half the show. Probably not going to fly. Now, as for the shitty music that ruined this video clip... I doubt it was done to give the video a "transformative" purpose and protect itself from copyright laws. But, if it was, there is no way he made this video transformative, in other words, he/or she did not add something new and insightful. Because in reality it's just shitty music in the background and you can still hear the actor's voices. Since it's a 44 minute show and only 4 minutes were used, it's likely okay. By the way, I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.

One of the reasons why the Vikings were so ruthless and fearless is the concept of Valhalla. They wanted to die in battle and it's hard to beat this type of warriors.
