I guess people who havent seen the Chicago musical or movie wouldn't understand the background to this musical number or how it would tie into the theme of "devil". But the story behind this song is about women in prison talking about how and why they killed their husbands, etc., so it does fit with the theme of "devil". People need to understand that just because the theme is "devil" that it doesn't have to be a literal description of the word. Just because it's not mainstream dance like all the other contestants, doesn't mean that it's bad. People need to learn to appreciate all different types of dance. And it's rare to find someone who can pull off all different types of dance genre. And that's what Hyoyeon has shown throughout this whole show. She explores and portrays different dance genres, not just the ones she's confident it. Sorry. I just see a lot of hate towards Hyoyeon and it pisses me off cuz they think they know better. I'm not saying that I know better, but I know how to appreciate people's effort and hard work. So just cuz you don't like it, doesn't mean you should hate on it. Rant over.

Hyoyeon was the smartest in her choreo choice to me, she decided to put herself out there instead of choosing a typical pop or hip hop genre, she took advantage of the program to show another side of herself that she couldn't bring out considering SNSD dance routines! The big issue of being an idol is that you can't prove your skills outside the group but shows like "Hit the stage" show that Hyoyeon can nail any dance routine !

Hyoyeon chooses to portrait the devil differently than any competitors. The devil can be sexy, seductive yet classy at the same time, and she nailed it. Personally, I'm so proud of this girl, this dance is not her usual style of dancing and it isn't mainstream either. But she chooses anyways, because she wants to do what she loves the most, dancing. She's a versatile dancer and a living legend that deserves to be called 'The Dancing Queen'.

i loved this performance the dancers and her did this really well. it was very classy. and for those who dont know, Cell Block Tango is actually about 6 prisoners who murdered they're former lovers for various reasons, which are the sounds that they make i the beginning. those are the sounds that were made when they killed them. Y'all should really see the original Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago. its really awesome and it captures your attention. I agree her expression were not as strong but yes she did fit the concept. This is coming from a BlackJack so yeah no bias here.

I am both a fan of Hyoyeon and of broadway musicals, and let me tell you this: out of all the performances for this particular theme, THIS CONCEPT IS THE TRUE FACE OF EVIL. Cell Block Tango is a song from the broadway musical Chicago. It's about 6 women who are in jail for murdering their husbands. They all love their husbands. But as we all know, there are little devils inside each and everyone of us. And when their husbands drove them to the edge, they surrendered to their 'devils' and killed their lovers. The song is amazing. The idea is remarkable. The execution is out of this world. The Queen of Fresh Concepts Hyoyeon is a legend and no one can ever compare 👑👑👑

For those who think that Hyoyeon didn't fit the devil's concept: "Cell Block Tango" is a song from the 1975 musical Chicago, with music composed by John Kander and lyrics written by Fred Ebb. It features the female criminals singing about how they ended up in jail. These 6 female criminals are singing about the way how they murdered their lovers. Still? Didn't understand- find the lyrics. Hyoyeon just went to a more logical way than others. She is just clever. It hurts me how people talk about her here, when thousands of her fans are watching this perfomance. I'm one of her fans too and I admire her so much!❤️ Fighting Hyoyeon, Our one and only Dancing queen!😍

*I love it. We all know how good her hiphop dance moves are but she completely skipped that and used a harder version of tango to represent the theme of Devil instead. She chose a much classier version and representation of her interpretation of the theme.* *Obviously, she doesn't care about the scoring system or the conventional expectations for eye-popping or attention-seeking moves or techniques. She is more interested in delivering new conceptualizations of the word "Devil" and I see it - Devil doesn't have to be ugly and crude. Devil can be sophisticated and cruel too.*

Objectively speaking, she could have been more powerful during Velma's chorus because that was the chorus that really kicked off Cell Block Tango. But that's just me being nitpicky because I loved how Hyoyeon decided to use Hit the Stage as her experimentation ground. What I noticed about Hyoyeon is that she is one to explore, even in her solo career, and that's what makes her a standout for me.

Those people who pointed out that this wasn't following the concept of the dance haven't watched the musical play Chicago, or worse can't understand the lyrics of the song. To everyone saying that "this doesn't fit the Devils theme", then what does the Joker in Hoya and U-Kwon performances have to do with the theme??? If it is because he is a murderer, sociopath, etc... Then Hyoyeon is right because this song is from the musical Chicago, which is about women who committed murder, especially this song in which they tell how they kill their partners... And on the style of dancing... Everyone was doing some style of HipHop, then what is wrong in doing a different style??? All of this idols can do HipHop, but not all of them can do ballroom, Hyo was smart enough to show them that there is more in dance than HipHop, I hope that as the show goes on the idols can show more variety of dancing, and not only the some old... Hyoyeon slay!!! All the idols on Hit The Stage Slay!!! HTS Fighting!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Ps: Not hating on the idols, but on the stupid people making stupid comments 😒

Hyoyeon is known for variety and even if she has been training hip hop and popping&locking since she was 11 years old, after 9 years in the game she can come out on a dance competition and have the balls to perform TANGO (something she only practiced twice for DWTS 4 years ago) and actually display some technique in it and do great. That shows how special of a dancer she is. She takes challenges and keeps things interesting instead of doing the same dance styles she was trained in like the others in the competition did

rather than dance her speciality, she tried something new with this concept. thats what im proud of. she's challenging herself. if you might not know, hyo specialities are popping, locking, and all those dance that requires lot of muscle works. she only tried dance sport professionally on tv with dancing with the stars, compared to then. she improved a lot. so, to get 152 out of 200 points by doing something new, its something to be proud of. Hyo also said that she didnt dissapointed cos she knew she's better at other dance than this, and she feels satisfied with the score. Hyo we're proud of you too.

Hyoyeon. I don’t even know where to start to thank you for the role model you have been in my life. I started supporting Girls Generation almost a decade ago, and I was introduced to the group by my older sister. This was my first introduction to K-Pop, so I had never seen anything like it before. The group did, and still does make my sister so happy, and it is one of the few parts of her life that today continues to give her motivation when she finds it hard to find any. Despite not knowing any of the members’ names yet, you stood out to me immediately. You were just so beautiful and had such a demanding and powerful presence in the group and in the music videos, I fell absolutely in love with the way that you execute your musicality. Ever since then, I have spent every second getting to now you more and more. Though I wasn’t there at the very beginning, since my introduction to you almost a decade ago, I have been a huge supporter and fan, and have stayed by your side all of these years. I’ve learned about what you’ve gone through, as well as what your members have gone through, and how you faced it together. You have taught me so much about perseverance and love that I can’t even even explain in words how much I have learned. I have changed so much because you have shown me how to live freely despite what anybody thinks about me. You are one of the first females to ever show me how to reach my full potential as another female in a world that makes me doubt what I can do. I have felt no limits watching you fly freely across the stage, both with your members, and by yourself, and you make me feel like I can do the same thing. I know you have been through a lot and have overcome a lot, especially being that you and all your members are iconic and legendary. I’m not even going to try to imagine what it’s been like to have all of these eyes on you for so many years, but how you’ve had the motivation and keep going is beyond me. You are so strong, especially given your platform and everything you’ve potentially had to deal with. Through the years, I’ve watched you evolve from a young woman, exploring her talents with her members, to a confident musician who shines no matter what she does. From your dominating and playful rapping skills, to your full and controlled singing voice, and beloved by everyone, your unmatchable and irreplaceable dancing skills, you have been one of my favorite performers to watch and be inspired from since I’ve been introduced to K-Pop. You have always been so special to me and one of the first people to show me that I can be more than what I am. I know that your members are just as grateful to your for sticking by your side and bringing them comfort and happiness in a way that nobody else can. I know that you all are still together despite pursuing individual projects, and the bond that you have is exactly what I hope to have with my great friends one day. I know your family is proud of you most of all, and I want to thank them for being such a huge factor in all of your success and glory. On behalf of them, your Sones, your friends, and your members, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being exactly who you are and showing power in a world that wants to take it from you. I absolutely adore you so much and I hope that you know how much your are loved and will always be remembered for generations. Thank you for making history and sacrificing so much to bring us entertainment, music, happiness, and inspiration. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stay safe, have as much fun as you possibly can surrounded by the people that love you most, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! She tends to put on performances with deep meaning and portray them a different way. That’s what the audience sometimes doesn’t understand. Most of them probably haven’t seen The Chicago Musical so they don’t understand the meaning behind the style, props, or music. It’s not their fault that they didn’t understand. Either way she did an amazing job

What I love about Hyo's performance is how she set her face. Even when she was just standing still, she let her emotions play out on her face and it kept the audience connected to her.

The fact she used this song from Chicago which cane out in the 2000's which probably not many Koreans know of, and she challenged herself like that straying away from the cute image to the tough femme fatale goes to show how amazing of a dancer she is.

honestly, idec who wins or gets the most points or whatever. from the perspective of a lover of art and dancer, im just happy to be witnessing inspired performances from super talented people. for that, i've been mostly watching these like a person walking through an art gallery, finding strengths and weaknesses but not so much treating it like a competition. for hyo, i love that she picked a different genre for this. i love that it felt like a scene straight out of a musical, and her body moved so beautifully.

If you're going to comment about the concept....how about you do some research on what the term devil is and what personality traits the devil exhibits. AND THEN --- binge on musicals...specifically Chicago, because my children, this is a spot on performance with a spot on theme pertaining to the devil. *rolls eyes at the twelve year olds who don't watch musicals because they're too busy mainstreaming their lives away* oops- I've said too much. *yeets*

Hyoyeon, I would like to wish you an early happy birthday, as the time is drawing close. You are one of the first women to ever show me how to reach my full potential in a world that makes me doubt what I can do. I have felt no limits watching you fly freely across the stage, both with your members, and by yourself, and you make me feel like I can do the same thing. I know you have been through a lot and have overcome a lot, especially being that you and all your members are iconic and legendary. I’m not even going to try to imagine what it’s been like to have all of these eyes on you for so many years, but how you’ve had the motivation and kept going is beyond me. You are so strong, especially given your platform and everything you’ve potentially had to deal with. Through the years, I’ve watched you evolve from a young woman, exploring her talents with her members, to a confident musician who shines no matter what she does. I love your impressionable and playful rapping skills, unique and versatile singing voice, and your unmatchable and irreplaceable dancing skills. You have been one of my favorite performers to watch and become inspired from since I’ve been introduced to K-Pop. I pray that you and your loved ones stay safe and find happiness and worth in the future. Thank you for making history and sacrificing so much to bring us entertainment, music, happiness, and inspiration. Please stay safe, have as much fun as you possibly can surrounded by the people that love you most, and happy birthday! We adore you and love you so much!!!

She interpreted devils not just by being mad, evil, scary or mythical, what she did was try to highlight the "devils" of a woman, using her beauty to seduce men to do her favors and such, it's interesting, really.

Is Cell block tango taken from the same Chicago of Tiffany's upcoming play? If it's so, isn't it amazing that Hyoyeon chose a song from the play, and then 5 years later, which is 2021, Tiffany is going to perform as a protagonist of it too?

this wasn't weak at all. it looked weak bc everyone was busting out hard moves and flashy effects on their performance and this was basically an intelligent concept for her since she chose femme fatale. you noticed everyone had snappy movements with modern dance but she did tango there. and that's not easy to pull off especially if you haven't done it for too long. i guess her DWTS stint influenced her on this number.

To me, it is smart for Hyoyeon to perform with this kind of style. I mean, we are all used to her hip-hop, pop locking prowess but she took this performace to show that she's a versatile dancer. i actually love the concept behind wherein it's not a literal depiction of "devils" when in fact, the cell block tango, is somewhat a depiction of "devils in real life" like how Hyoyeon portrayed it...

SNSD's comment: Heol! Daebak sagun! • I'm really tired of seeing these, "Not close to devil's concept" comments. Unlike the other contestants, Hyoyeon along with Taemin strayed their idea of "Devil/Evil" from supernatural/comic book characters. Hyoyeon used the real life idea of devil, her concept being femme fatale (A woman who lures their lovers to do evil things). I give her full props to that because she thought outside the box and chose a different way of looking at the theme. • Now the "It wasn't impressive" comments. It's not impressive because she chose a dance style that you didn't expect her to do, which shows how flexible, and versatile she is as a dancer. As well as the music, the music didn't have the type of beats that would make your heart beat pumped up and excited, thus giving you the impression of "Not impressive/wow performance" • Why it was a great stage: We all know Hyoyeon as the type of performance to do popping and hip hop style, but instead she took this opportunity to show us her flexibility in dance, by giving us the unexpected, which is her performance of dance sport. And I'm proud of her for that, she strayed away from the expectations people were giving her. This may be a disappointing performance (To some people) but let's look forward to her future stages!
