I found this when going through a list of rare video game items. In that list I realized megaman 5 for gameboy and harvest moon for snes are worth thousands of dollars. I owned mega man 5 for gameboy and almost bought harvest moon for snes years ago for like 20-30 dollars. Dang. So many missed opportunities.

Retro gaming has surely become a very expensive hobby these days. I can safely say I've missed a fair share of golden opportunities due to timing or finances. I say keep searching, because you'll never know what you'll find.

what is with Japan and game consoles that are also GPS??? The FM Towns Marty also had a GPS version of the console. Did a lot of people take their consoles and put them in their cars in the 90s??? very strange. Great video btw

While a few Hitachi Hi Saturn Navi pop up once in a blue on eBay, none are ever sold with the screen. It still amazes me how I was able to get my hands on one. What I would love to see happen during some sort of debugging/development would be configuring the screen to display some sort of code while playing a game on your TV, or vice versa.
@AMurder0fCrows

Been trying to get the screen for a project for years. The idea was to tear the screen apart, build moulds for it, and attempt to recreate it while fixing some of the problems. Give some of us navi owners without screens a chance to complete our consoles. Someday maybe. Also, that is a region switch setup, not a region free setup. I'm very interested in doing a region free bios installation on my navi, but I'm equally terrified of the idea of screwing it up.
@Ex_Savior

Unfortunately, the screen has been deemed extremely rare. It would be nice to have some sort of option to recreate the screen itself, but to be honest it's really a novelty item. I do not see myself using at time, since I run my Saturn to a BVM. As far as the region switching goes, thanks for clarifying that. I suppose I used the phrase "Region Free" as a simple way to explain how this can play different region games. Also, the default language of the Navi is in English, which I figured was due to a region free option. I will change the title to correctly reflect what the console really does. And dude, if you pull off switching the stock bios into a region free bios, it would be great if you can document the entire process. If I'm not mistaken, you have to de-solder and solder a specific chip on the motherboard, right?

Does the LCD play in Saturn's progressive scan RGB mode or is the image still heavily interlaced as if you were playing through composite?
@Ex_Savior
7 жыл бұрын
Filip Martinez I'm not sure I understand your question. The Hitachi HiSaturn Navi, just like all Sega Saturns, displays games in 240p and in 480i, just like the PlayStation 1 does. The resolution depends on the game you're playing. There are no progressive scan (480p) games available for the Sega Saturn. The use of 480p games mainly started during the PlayStation 2, Original Xbox and GameCube era. As far as the LCD screen goes, it shows as though it were a composite image. The RGB mod only affects the main "A/V Out" portion. Think of the mod as restoring RGB back into the Saturn.

You had two?? You must be rich lol. As far as the laser goes, I'm sure there's a simple replacement that could be found. I haven't checked out the make and model on mine, but when/if the time comes for a replacement, I'll probably make a disassembly and repair video about it.

hi, what size of wire rack shelf do you use and where did you get it? thanks!
@Ex_Savior
7 жыл бұрын
It's a wire rack that was bought from Target. The size of the shelves on it are more or less about 20" across and stack-able either vertically or horizontally. Shouldn't be very expensive, around $50. It may seem a bit flimsy when built, but the weight of your consoles will anchor it down for sure. If it were up to me, I'd love to have my consoles on a wooden rack or mount.

Sega Saturn is one of those consoles that, if you have the money, is quite a rewarding investment. It's success in Japan was masked by it's failure in the US. I'd say give it a shot, there are plenty of hidden gems for this console that supersede the PS1 in many ways.
