Thanks a ton for your video. The simple explanation of all the wires really helped me and now I have a functioning Hive Active Heating at home. I could not really figure out the boiler off switch, so turned off the electricity to the whole house and did the wiring bit.

I rate you mate, they put so little in the installation guide so that you have no choice to get an engineer to do it after you pay so much for device.

Hi, I have a drayton rts2 programmer on my combi boiler. How difficult will it be to install hive? Do I have to fiddle too much with the wires? Any help is greatly appreciated

I did this at my mums flat all went well until I flicked the main fuse back on and there was an almighty BANG followed by a giant blue flame, I nearly had a heart attack. Id inadvertently wired the live to the neutral (I was on prescription drugs at the time) I disabled all the neighbours electricity and the council had to come out reset the group fuse box...... Then about a month later my old mum got an electricity bill for a thousand pounds... apparently there was some sort of power surge and they sent her the bill.

Well done. Couple suggests 1: install hub 1st as it needs time to update software 2: the old back plate was compatibility with the hive i believe you just needed to move the common wire for it to work.

You do realise the hive would have just clipped straight on to the old back plate their was no need to change it..

Yes on my boiler there is 3 settings. on. Timer and off. I keep it on on. And thermostat turns it on and off.

I appreciate the videos you make and admire your confidence to do this alone. However whilst you may have a rough idea what your doing your showing this to people who don’t understand the basics of electricity or boilers. You should consider using a disclaimer in the video as working on electricity when not competent to do so can have fatal consequences. Neon screwdrivers should not be used to check if a wire is live as they can give false readings, a volt meter should be used. Also half removing the fuse like you did is by no means a guarantee voltage will not continue to pass. Also when reinserting wires it’s essential all the copper is behind the screw and plate as this could lead to arking. I don’t intend to discredit your video. I only wish to make people aware of the risks of working on electricity.

Hi there mate. I bought the hive for a combi boiler. My current wireless receiver is not wall mounted. when i took it apart there is 4 wires. Live Neutral and two black wires. I just don't know what to do with the two black wires. Where i took them out has no reference to what they are apart from a switch symbol i looked it up and it said " Black & Black = room thermostat O - I. any help would be good

I'm not saying to do it, I'm not qualified or anything, but I would just try one of them and see if the boiler comes on. if it doesn't, Id try the other one.

@@FixYourValues Exactly you don't know, problem is common seems to used for both the ground/earth wire and also live wire. "The common is the main live coming in." www.downlights.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/Two-Way-Wiring.jpg and it can is seens also be used to ground/neutral wires . Indeed it can be used for wires of 0V 240V and also 24V apparently. I think the com here is 24C but I'm not too sure, however doing it as you have done it labelling wires and connecting them to the same named connection seems to avoid any problems. But it is odd the dual channel does not have a com wire at all! Anyhow my old controller with a thermostat packed in, fortunately I was about to get new one which was compatible so I could just swap the units without touching the wiring. I might be interested in having a system like this in future ie with a thermostat and wireless etc... so this might be helpful should I ever be daft enough to try it. However by backplate is the dual channel one without a com wire. I think I've leave it till I know what I am doing!

This video made me cringe.. firstly let's turn power off to the boiler, in the same shot a cable dangles almost into the fish tank! Surprised you didn't just wire it up with everything live. Then when it came to plugging in the receiver omg the cabling inside that cupboard! Whole house looks a fire hazard but at least you have smart heating 😳

We've followed all the guidance in the video however, the receiver doesn't seem to be picking up the hub as the heating is not working, any ideas? We have restarted the boiler, hub etc but still nothing. The receiver is working but it's the pairing that seems to be the problem.

Worryingly amateurish, testing for live with neon screwdriver isn’t enough ,that existing wiring is terrible, love how they gouged into plaster behind plate to get flex in rather than using surface box, where are the earths as well?? It should be against law to advise people where gas and electricity are used sorry
