My options right now is i90(budget friendly), rpha11(pricey), and rpha90(modular but pricey). I'm a new rider and will be using scooter. You've mentioned that this is good for beginners and it is plus points for me. Opting for modular since regular temperature here(Phillipines) is around 29-31 degrees. Love the review. More power!

Though it is always a bit difficult choosing between helmets, the i90 or the RPHA 90 would be best suited for scooter riding. Between the two helmets, it would mainly depend on what level of helmet you'd like to start off with. While the i90 is entry level, it does still come with all the features a starter rider needs, and the RPHA 90S would give you premium quality without needing to go all out on price right away. If you're curious to see how the i90 would compare, we have also road tested the latest RPHA 90S Carbon here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/wJhvqKh7gICLq3o What are your thoughts on the HJC helmets?

Looking for a modular option that is quieter. Surely thus is a great option. Thanks again. Buying one size up for Bluetooth install and comfort I think.

VERY COMPLEX PROBLEM .... I drive a 2013 R1200GS and I just bought a NEW HJC i90 flip-up helmet at the end of September, and since that moment I have a huge metallic noise that seems to come up from inside the fork, below the handlebars, and the more I accelerate, the more the noise is important until not being able to support it any more around 120 km / h. a friend tried my motorcycle and told me that it had no problem neither technical nor mechanical and suggested to me that the noise was coming from the NEW helmet ..... at first I laughed thinking that he was joking. the next day I drove with another low-end helmet and the ...... no more metallic noise, I put the NEW HJC i90 back on and ...... the metallic noise returned .. .. !!!!, what do you think ?
@Championhelmets
4 жыл бұрын
That is definitely a strange problem. It may perhaps be a problem with the helmet's chin bar locking system, which is made of metal. In that case, it may be best to contact your originally helmet seller to make a warranty claim. If you purchased the helmet from us, then please send us an email at info@championhelmets.com detailing the problem in your helmet. We will then contact the manufacturer to check if a claim can be made. Thanks for the comment! Besides the unfortunate metallic issue, how have you found the helmet?

I find the helmet a little heavy. My neck after a ride was sore. I previously had a very cheap Bilt helmet for 80 bucks modular and felt better in my opion. Again it's only been 2 days of rideing hope I break it in and get used to it while rideing. One pro is the cardo with jbl speakers fit right in there no problem and sounds great.

Thanks for the question! The i90 in its largest size will weigh about 1800 grams. Since it's made out of polycarbonate, it will be heavier than the Max Evo, which has a Premium Integrated Matrix Shell and is about 200 grams lighter. Though we haven't had a chance to road test the RPHA Max Evo, it should be about as loud if not quieter than the i-90. Besides noise and weight, the main differences between the two will be the positioning of the sun visor lever and that the i90 is meant to be more wallet friendly. What did you think of the road test results for the i90?

While we didn't perform our test at those speeds, based on our results for when our rider was at those speeds it looks like the helmet gets about 96-98 decibels at about the 100 km/h mark, so not too bad. Thanks for the question! Are you thinking of going for the i-90?

Unfortunately, the front logo of the i-90 is etched onto the helmet, so it can't be removed. For sizing, since it is depends on the wearer and the helmet, it can be hard to say. However, in this case it may be better to order a size up. If you find the helmet doesn't fit, you can always exchange it for another size with us for free (just make sure that you don't ride in it and only try it on at home). Thanks for the question! Hello Champion Helmets, Since I am using the IS MAX 2 for a while, I am looking for a new one. I was thinking to buy the I90. It looks good en have a good price. But how about the noise? I have watch you video and read your explaination above to Obrer Schmied. I am verry interested to know what would be considered a normal noise level in the helmet? Since you didt test the IS MAX 2 I can not compare if the I90 will be better or worse than hes previus model. Thanks in advance.
@Championhelmets
4 жыл бұрын
We've found that on average most modular helmets have about 100 decibels. However, compared to other budget helmets at around the same price, the i-90 is the same or better at reducing noise, though we haven't had a chance to road test the IS MAX 2 yet. As far as normal noise in the helmet, it may be hard to say since this can really depend on other factors like riding position, if you have a wind screen, etc. Though these factors may vary, you can still expect the i90 to have a good level of noise isolation given its great price. And, though we haven't tested the IS MAX 2 yet, the i-90 does include a chin curtain, which should also help reduce noise in the helmet. Were there any other features besides noise that drew you to this helmet?

@@Championhelmets Hello Champion Helmets, thankyou for your answer. The reason I'm looking for the i90 is, that he is replacing the IS MAX 2, which i'm quit happy with. I ride a racer model and I use glasses, so for me is important to have a good ventilation inside the helmet, a good visibility, both in width and height. And have enough space behind the sun visor to avoid fog in my glasses . Really annoying when you use glasses. As I read the i90 become a bit heavier than the previews model. I know the are already prepared for the "Smart HJC system) which I will not buy since is to expensive. I am in doubt if the i90 is much better than the IS MAX and what are the improvements of it, beside the HJC smart system. But at the moment I can not find any good comparison about those models. So long history short, I still can buy the IS MAX 2. Now for a really good price since every one want to lose it and make place for his new brother. The prices of the i90 is also very good bay the way. ;) So, I am not sure what type it will be. Any good advise about another Helmets or why no go for the IS MAX again? Thanks in advance.
@Championhelmets
4 жыл бұрын
The best way to look at the i90 would be as an updated alternative to the IS MAX 2. While the sun visor is no longer spring loaded, the i90 has been refined in terms of the chin bar mechanism and the visor replacement system. The i90 does fit glasses, and when we looked at the weights for both helmets in a size M, we found he i90 was slightly lighter. So, the i90 is a little bit more expensive, but it also looks and feels slightly more upscale as well. Deciding between the two would depend on if you're looking for something a little bit more upscale or if you're happy with the IS MAX 2, since both do still offer a lot of similar features.

I just bought an i90 3 weeks ago and the visor has to be fully up or down. I can’t get the visor to stay in place part way up to allow more ventilation as it closes on me or flaps around despite the ratchet system. I have taken it back and they have sent it away to be tested but I have been told “that’s just the way the i90 is” . I’ve been riding for over 35 years and had 2 modular helmets previously without this problem (an LS2 and an HJC Cl14) Has anybody else had the same issue with the visor not staying in place?

Thanks for the question! During our test, we found it was a bit of both. Based on our road tests, we found the i90 came in at about 104 decibels, while the RPHA 90 showed 102 decibels, so teh RPHA 90 was a quieter helmet. For daily driving with ear plugs, then the i90 should pose no problems for daily driving. Unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to test the HJC IS-Max 2 yet, but both seem comparable. The i-90 is P/J homologated so you can ride with the chin bar up on the roads. The i90 should definitely be fine for city speeds with the chin bar up, but you may want to consider closing it once you approach highway speed. For noise, the helmet measured about 104-106 decibels, which is generally about average for a modular helmet. But when considering its price, this is actually very good
