Simon you do great work. Excellent tutorial could not be better. What a great reference for when I progress to FBL Regards Ian

Wow! quite a crash test that! Sorry to hear of your mishap and I hope you have things repaired by now. I'm glad you were able to salvage many parts!

I've not tried the $10 HK head but the $15 HK head that I build in this video is great value and good quality. I would buy more...

Yes that's the stuff to use for the bearings and motor pinion gears. I used loctite stud-locker in my video because it was what I had to hand but it's very similar to R48.

Nice video simon. I only change one thing on heads now. I don't like those oreo bearings with the 3 separate parts. My cheap xheli head came with regular bearings instead of the 3 pieces bearings and also my Dragonus and they are the smoothest heads. So now I just throw those 3 pieces bearings out as I just could never get them to work smoothly. You can just snug the bearings in and not have to back up the screw so they stay put.

The metal used in these inexpensive Chinese parts is definitely softer than say Align (It's easier for them to machine to a price). The parts to be careful with are the threads on the main grips where the arms are bolted into and the feathering shaft bolts will not tolerate many tighten - loosen cycles before the hex pattern gets sloppy. That said I feel the kit is good (I have 3) and the materials used are not too soft - Just don't over torque the m2 threads and you will be fine!

I have the 10 dollar head and it works, but I like this one better because the arms are attached to the top so you don't have a floating washout base like the 10 dollar head which is more work to set up as you have to move it up and down to get the right angles on the blades. They work the same way, but now that I have it I would rather get something like what simon has on here.

I've never held a tarot fbl head in my hands so its hard for me to comment. Also I think there are at least 2 versions of the Tarot head. This aside, I think the Tarot rotor head holder is essentially 450 pro in design and uses 450 pro feathering shafts, dampers etc. So to answer your question, much of the vid will translate but there will also be differences.

By the way - hudy 1.5 hex (with plastic handle) and Align 4 in 1 set (1.5mm hex again) are very good and will last relatively long. Also Integy is great, but it has small handle and is not comfortable for high torque. Hudy is around 10-12$, Align set 25$, Integy - 5$. If you buy 2$ wrench and strip it and bolt after 5 bolts, you soon will want something better. No bolts stripped since I have these tools.

I like to "glue" the grip bearings in place on these heads because the bearings slide in very easily and could in theory move about a little. If the bearings were a tight fit and I had to press them in with a vice (or similar) I would not bother with the glueing. As for removal - yes it does make them harder to tap/press out and a heatgun is sometimes needed. Oil is not necessary but it can only help. Any oil from 3in1, sewing machine, bearing oil will do. Not light WD oil though! Thanks!

Hi Simon, excellent and very informative videos, thanks for taking the time and effort in posting them. Silly question maybe but I note the 1.5 hex driver you use, WERA 2054 I think? Is it good quality?

upps - Align is 5 in 1, there is also 4 in 1 set which I cannot comment. "HOT00002 Align 5pc Hex Driver Set" it has 4 hex sizes and a Philips head, handle is made from alloy and has quick-fix mechanism + a magnet inside but that does not translate to tips very much

Thanks for you reply, it makes sense to help eliminate ANY slop in the head.. I assume the glue is the R48 anaerobic retainer you get with the Align kits since I've never needed to use it anywhere else.

Sorry - I use the term "glue" loosely and in fact used an equivalent stud-locker to the Align Green threadlocker. In the video I was using a red Loctite which is very similar.

Thanks! Yes they are Wera 1.5mm. They have been excellent and I would buy again. I'm afraid the part number has rubbed off the handle so I can't confirm that for you. I bought them from eBay if that helps.

Thanks for a great tutorial, I've assembled a couple of these before and never been as meticulous as this but, judging by your flight videos its well worth the extra effort! Why did you thread-lock/ glue the bearings to the grips an will they come out again if needs be? Also, I never oil the bearings (just grease the thrust washers) - is this also necessary and would you recommend any other type of oil (scorpion bearing oil looks similar), cheers in advance.

I have the HK FBL head as well and love it. Now I have the new stronger Align feathering shaft it it with M2.5 Screws. Still don't know why they didn't make them M3 like the Mini Protos. Anyhow where on earth do I find new grip links and rods for the HK 450 head? HK doesn't seem to offer them. Bought a spare head but have used up its links now with tail failure crashes Thats the only thing that breaks in a crash is those long grip links. Sometimes I can straiten them and other times they break.
