@@mdubb4855 i would say if you've never shot with a LEM to get decocker as its very well thought out and designed... I have the v3 with a grayguns kit and the DA breaks so goddang clean and smooth at around 7-7.5lb and SA is around 4lb which IMO is perfect for CCW and HD. More Options with V3... The LEM takes some getting used to, i like them both but over the years always prefer a decocker outta sheer repetition...

I know you reviewed this 3 years ago, but I have owned my P2000sk v3 for 4 years. I have carried it every day, concealed, and go to the range about 2-3 times per month. Doing the math, in four years I have only ONE misfire due to a bad primer and have run about 40,000 rounds through it, to date. I have not had even one problem with with the gun. I clean and lube it every 400 rounds. I have never done a deep cleaning on it but I take my time and use q-tips in hard to reach areas. As always, the mags are the weak point due to spring metal fatigue so I run 4-10 round magazines. I carry 3 mags everyday and rotate them out each month, leaving the 4th mag unloaded for a month in a dry location. So, every 4th month the mag spring “rests”. When cleaning I pay closed attention to the load ramp. I would say, with the 10-12 pound pull on the trigger, it took about a month or more to get accurate on the first shot double action because of the heavy pull. I found that after I mastered that double action pull, I became very accurate with the gun. One drill I do consistently at the range is a 3 shot group as soon as I get to the range to test my stone accuracy. This gun is extremely accurate.. On the range I run 124 grain Winchester. When I carry, it is loaded with 150 grain HSTs,which I rotate every 6 months, using the old rounds at the range. I use the iron sights that came new with the gun, I keep it well lubed including using a Q-tip in the mags well. I was going to replace this. someday, with a VP9, but after the reviews, I do not see where it is better than my p2000sk,. But am willing to have an open mind. I really like a hammer fire pistol with a de cocker and no safety. Replacing it back into the holster with my thumb on the hammer is, for me,the saftest way to do i. Hope this helps someone.t

Like lowbrow art you either get it or you don't. It's a V3 DA/SA with decocker and night sights. Size? Perfect for any use whether you like to kill paper, compete, EDC, or just flat out like handguns. I enjoy the fact that the near standard of the world Beretta 92 came up in this with such enthusiasm. Its literally custom made to fit my big glommy hands it seems. I rented one and was a surgeon with it, but since carry involved the Mrs as well there was no choice but the P2000. 9mm for economic practice reasons (well used to be!) and recoil that can be managed. I've used a DA/SA P30L and had no problems with the SA trigger pull. Maybe I'm not a well adjusted trigger snob, but the stock SA trigger is nicer to me than most "nice trigger" striker fired handguns I've tested. The DA trigger pull I like far less, as not only does it seem unnecessarily heavy, but there isn't a clear wall or break, so you have to kind of train into it and even then you can accidently fire when you were just trying to hold at the wall.

Purchased a p2000 .40 V3 back in April of 2020. I loved everything about the gun, with the exception of the spurred hammer. Being an appendix carry guy, with a bit of belly, it made sitting for long periods extremely uncomfortable. After a bit of research, I took a day to swap parts, and create a V1 out of it. I did leave the Decocker, so I wouldn’t leave an annoying empty hole on the back of the slide. But with the correct springs, I now have the LEM light, with a consistent tigger pull of 4lbs. My love of this pistol grew to the point, I ended up purchasing a V2 P2000sk. Again, a few springs swapped, and that sweet 4lb trigger now resides on both pistols. Owning multiple handguns, these two really stand out as being at the top of my list of favorites. The p2000 series of pistols are probably the most underrated handguns out on the market. Nearing 22 years after they were first created, these things still remain among the best handguns you can buy

I'm with you on the match trigger -- it'd be really nice to have such an option available for this, the P30, and the HK45s. Also, I'm sorry about the ridiculous California gun laws. The gun laws in California DO NOT reduce crime, absolutely DOES NOT not reduce crime. Looks like you're being sucked in by the propaganda of the leftist media like too many other Americans who rely upon their knowledge based upon the news. There is a website, whose name on forgetting at the moment, that details all of the crime statistics and studies regarding handguns and the so-called assault weapons. I'm a 1911 guy, but I've been wanting to get a hammer fired DA/SA. I had narrowed it down to Beretta M9A1 and PX4, Sig 226, CZ P-01 and HK P2000. Yesterday I went to the store to see how they felt in my hand and now they dry fired in both DA and SA, and hopefully I could cull it down to one or two. All fell by the wayside except the P2000 and the M9A1. I much preferred the trigger in both DA and SA of the M9A1, but just liked the P2000 more in how I gripped it. I just bought a HK 45c. Now I want a HK 9 millie. It's either between the P30, VP9, or the P2000. Which one would you recommend??
@thegunpenguin
5 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that's a hard choice. First of all, I wholeheartedly agree with your choice of the 45C. Here are some pros and cons to each of those, in my mind: 1. The P2000 is my current favorite 9mm HK. It's got a great trigger, that'll feel nearly identical to your 45C, only the reset is slightly longer. The gun is smaller than it seems, and feels like a USP, only with a 1913 rail. The 2k is very comfortable, and the grip is just the right length. I shoot it a little better than the VP9 and the P30. The only real mark against this pistol is the magazine capacity, but the grip is such a nice size that it's tough to complain. Oh, and the trigger is far superior to that of the P30, despite the frequent online claims that they are the same. 2. The VP9 is nice, and that trigger is great. I don't put much stock in the online tests claiming that the gun doesn't run well, as I've seen and fired many that ran just fine. Really, the only "problem" with the VP9 is that there are other manufacturers putting out superior striker-fired guns for the same price. The PPQ has a better trigger. The P10 C also has a better trigger, and a lighter recoil impulse. Though I find the VP9 to be enjoyable to shoot, it's not as stunningly awesome as the P2000, or as cool as the P30. 3. The P30 has one of the most comfortable grips on planet Earth. And probably other planets, I guess. Those Moon Men make a very ergonomic plasma ray. But I digress. That grip, it's really exceptional. The P30 feels very natural, and points really well. I like the modern touches, like the front slide serrations and the captive takedown pin. The P30 has enough of those little cool bits to make it very, very fun to shoot. But, that trigger -- it's straight up bad. Really bad. It's spongey, and you can feel the actual piece of plastic flex under your finger. Yuck. Now that I'm used to it, I appreciate how forgiving and safe the trigger is, and it would be an absolutely awesome defensive gun for that reason, but the trigger puts it behind the P2000 for me. Both the P2000 and the P30 are worth owning. I wouldn't give up either. But, if I could only have one, I vote P2000. It's a perfect match for your new 45C, sporting the same grip and trigger, and it's one of the coolest-looking pistols HK has made. After my own 45C, the P2k might be my favorite HK. After my Beretta, it might be one of my favorite pistols ever. Oh hell, it looks like I just wrote you a novel. Sorry. Anyway, I hope this helps!

Thanks for responding, you're awesome man! lol. I was already leaning towards the P2000 but your words have given me more confidence and I'm definitely choosing the P2000. The thing about the VP9 is I already own the CZ P 10 c which I adore and is my winter carry gun, so I wasn't really that interested, but I still considered it. Again, thanks so much for answering and I love your style of video. I'm new to guns. Seriously, I’m happy to help. Yeah, if you’ve already got a P10 C, I’d absolutely double down on the recommending the P2000 over the VP9. I believe the P10 C and the Walther PPQ to be the best striker-fired guns around; my PPQ has something like 6k rounds through it without a malfunction, or possibly more. And of course Glocks are super great. In short, you’ve got great taste! You have an awesome gun collection, and you probably wouldn’t find the VP9 to be as exciting as most of the stuff you’ve already got. For the record, I completely understand what you mean about HKs. When I was a kid, I thought HKs were extravagantly cool, and I swore I’d buy a USP later in life. And you’re totally right, it’s just plain satisfying to have something that you’ve wanted since you were 15. Testing a few of mine all these years later, I was happy to see that they aren’t all hype, and are actually indestructible. The price drops have made them far more reasonable to purchase, so that’s nice. I understand your love affair with SA/DA decocking guns, as they are my personal preference. Don’t get me wrong -- I love striker-fired pistols, but my favorites are usually hammer-fired. When will you get to shoot the 45C? Here is a list of Beretta recommendations, in order. I apologize in advance for the length, but Berettas are fucking exciting: 1. The 92A1 is my favorite pistol of all time. I have one that I heavily customized myself, and it’s the most reliable pistol that I’ve ever had, or fired, or hell, even held. Mine is completely beat to death, and keeps running. At this point, it’s more like a friend than a hunk a metal that spits out smaller hunks of metal. The trigger is exceptional, the grip is comfortable, it has very little recoil, it’s easy to shoot, and the craftsmanship is stunning for a gun under $700. I bought this gun a few years ago because I’d always wanted a Beretta, and figured it’d be a cool gun to take to the range. Instead, it became the gun I shoot more than any other. Mine has been subjected to an absurd round count, and has yet to even break any small parts. 2. The classic M9 is a great choice. The price is right, they are beautifully constructed, and have the classic look. They have some antiquated quirks, like the non-removable front sight and the lack of a 1913 rail, but the M9 is one of those guns that everybody ends up owning at some point just to have one. It doesn’t hurt that they shoot like a custom pistol. 3. The PX4 is totally underrated. I have a 8000 Cougar, the all-metal precursor to the polymer PX4, but I’ve shot the PX4 quite a bit. It’s got an outstanding trigger, has a dramatically lessened recoil impulse thanks to the rotating barrel lock-up system thingy, and isn’t particularly heavy. A very nice gun. Folks talk crazy shit about the Berettas, and most of the time, those folks haven’t actually shot them extensively, and that frustrates me. In my experience, Beretta reliability is on-par with Glocks, and in a few cases, greater. A lot of the Beretta hate is recycled internet horseshit that folks just sort of repeat absentmindedly. My own testing shows them to be at the top of the pile, along with CZ, Glock, HK, and Walther. Anyhow, I really appreciate the kind words, and it’s been great talking with you. Let me know how you like the 45C, and if you have any more questions, I’m happy to answer. Assuming the answer is rattling around somewhere in my big stupid head. Oh, and before I forget, welcome to the sport, and after 2.5 years, you’re WAY more knowledgeable than some of the folks I know who have been shooting for 25 years. I hope this was helpful. I’m pretty dumb, but I’ve done a lot of testing, and I’m happy to pass that info along.

Nice review! The one thing that kept me away from the VP9 is the slide release (which I believe is the same on the p30). It was just in the wrong place for me. Which is why I prefer the Walther even though it was a larger slide release it’s up higher and out of the way. But I really like the simplicity of the p2000. As much as I love the USP for its “cool factor” and that it’s been in every video game and movie in existence, I feel like the p2000 is the more ergonomic and better gun. That decocker. Love it. If I get a DA/SA gun I think it’s between this and a CZ next time!
@thegunpenguin

Thanks for watching, and taking the time to share your thoughts! The P2000 is exceptional, and tremendously underrated. My only real complain is the grip texturing, but that also makes it nicer to carry pressed against your skin all day. If you're choosing between this and a CZ, the P2000 will be the more reliable of the two. I've had multiple issues with CZs over the last two years, while my HKs have been very, very solid. That said, my opinions and experiences are pretty damn far from definitive, so take what I say with the usual grain of salt.

thegunpenguin I think our taste in guns seems to be similar lol. I really like the p229 as well but there’s just something about the decocker that I don’t like on the p226/p229 that turns me off. Cool gun, might own one eventually but the HK especially the p2000sk or p30sk would make for one amazing carry gun I think. I’ve heard great things about the CZ’s being pretty reliable for the most part with a few exceptions like I guess the polymer framed guns have had issues in a few areas and the P10c was a little rocky at first when it released. I think I’d much prefer something like a P01 instead if I were to go that route. Either way I’d want something that can go to hell and back (even though I’d never drag it through those conditions but you never know these days lol) and the HK delivers on that front. Keep up the awesome videos man!

Thank you, my friend! I've had a similar relationship with the hammer-fired SIGs. I like them in principle, but they don't work as well with my hands, despite being excellent guns, and I certainly enjoy shooting them. The hammer-fired CZs, with the exception of the P-07, are older designs that won't go with you to hell and back. P-01 reliability, in my experience, have put thousands of rounds through them, is more on par with a good custom 1911 than an HK or Glock, for a few reasons. The guns are very tight, and while that enhances accuracy and perhaps the shooting experience, it makes it tough for the gun to feel with dirt and debris. The barrel locks up with the old Browning multi-lug system, unlike the big single lug most manufacturers use now. That's a lot of surface area to get fouled up with sand, or carbon, or whatever. I'm not saying they are bad guns -- I have a 3 CZs at the moment, and I enjoy them -- but they aren't HKs or Glocks or Berettas or Walthers. Unfortunately, the problems with the P10Cs weren't limited to just the early ones, though they have them mostly fixed, and I'd certainly recommend them. Again, not quite as reliable as Glock or HK, but very, very good. The SP-01 and P-01s, on the other hand, require far more frequent cleaning to run reliably. That's not really a problem, and as long as you're cleaning it every 500 rounds or so, it'll run fine. But they aren't like the P2000 where you don't have to do a damn thing to the gun. And I'm not knocking the CZ-75 for requiring more maintenance. It's based on the Hi-Power, and folks had different expectations of reliability. As long as you look after it, it'll work fine. We're just used to not having to look after our guns. As a target gun, though, the CZ beats the pants off the HK; it can't keep up or compare. The CZ's trigger isn't awesome out of the box, but it can be turned into something that feels like a $5000 custom gun. I totally get why all the competition folks in Europe have them! I kind of want to have my SP-01 cut for the RMR, to make it even faster.

I have the same gun, new from 2006. The only difference is the labeling on the grip. Instead of "P/2000", it is stamped as "HK/P2000". That seems to be the only difference. I've taken it to the range and I do not detect any difference compared to my Glock 30 or my Kimber 1911 .45 ACP. The recoil seems to be about the same. I love this gun, but I must admit my groupings on the Glock and Kimber are a little better. Maybe my sites are off, but this gun does come with night sites and the Glock and Kimber do not. My HK P2000 is 16 years old, but it has less than 2000 rounds through it. I keep it handy and loaded as one of my home defense handguns. It's the only gun I own with ambidextrous mag and slide releases. The best safety feature is the "de-cocker". When you rack a round in the chamber, then you can "de-cock" the trigger and use it safely for its double action feature. In other words, it's much safer than my Glock because the first trigger pull requires much more force than the next. It's got a hammer, instead of a pin. Much safer than my Glock 30.

The VP9 was the first HK built to a cost point as far as I know. That's why it doesn't look or cost the same as the others.
@thegunpenguin
5 жыл бұрын
I've heard much the same. HK wanted a pistol that we would and could buy lots of. And dammit, we did. Do you ever go to the gun store and hear some guy walk up to the counter and exclaim, "An HK for $500! Ring me up!" I find myself thinking, "No, don't do it, gun store guy! There's a P10 C right next to it!" I find the VP9 especially disappointing after owning a P10 C for awhile. HK had an opportunity to do what they do best, and innovate on the striker-fired gun formula. Instead, they just followed that formula, but made it HK-shaped. Meanwhile, CZ releases this gun that is truly exciting, and manages to cost less while being more robust. Once again, I really appreciate you watching, and for taking the time to weigh in. You seem like you might enjoy the interesting plastic European pistols as much as I do!

+thegunpenguin Exactly. Sadly the more competitive the market gets, the less creatives get to do what they do best; innovate. Instead, accounting starts making executive decisions. I've seen the same thing start to happen at Walther also. I remember reading that HK was in danger of going into bankruptcy a few years back; that would have been right around the time the VP9 came out.
@thegunpenguin
5 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, and I very much view your realistic and factual view of economics. I knew that HK had faced bankruptcy at the time, but I hadn't put it together that the VP9 was the bailout plan. While it might've worked, it means that we'll see a thousand variations of that pistol before we get something futuristic from the minds that brought us the P7. Also, I hadn't much thought about Walther's current trajectory, but I see your point. The PPQ is an amazing gun, but is arguably less advanced that the utterly crazy P99, which is still ahead of things now, 21 years after its debut. I'd rather see a successor to the P99, with new features so insane that I can't even conceive of what they might be. Instead, we get differently shaped Glocks with different logos on the slide. Don't get me wrong, I adore my PPQ, it's a favorite, but where's the crazy stuff we dreamed of when we were kids?

@@markpelenytschka8374 Thanks! I suppose there are worse things than having to shoot a lovely USP. It's funny, I don't have any practical use for .357 SIG, nor do I especially like the cartridge, but I really enjoy shooting it. It's one of the most fun auto cartridges, in my opinion.

Can you tell me how the recoil and muzzle rise is on your P2000 .40? I am thinking about getting a P2000 .40 or a HKP30L .40 Any opinion you have will be appreciated. Thanks,.

I paid $750.00 In California for mine brand new just last weekend. I seen some online for 699 and 750 respectfully. I like this gun.

I know, they're more expensive here in CA, I'm on the fence between it (P2000), the Beretta 92/M9 or the Glock 17.

@@rammbostein You probably can't go wrong with any of those. I was in a pinch and because of corona the good Glocks and Berettas are hard to find. I went with the p2000 9mm

I've extensively tested all of those, and whichever you choose, you win. Those are among the most reliable pistols one can purchase. It'll really come down to which feels best in your hands. The P2000 will be easiest to conceal, and given the 10-round capacity you're limited to, maybe it makes sense to go with something smaller.
