From Wikipedia on The Beagle's first voyage (1826-1830) - "On 27 September 1825 The Beagle docked at Woolwich to be repaired and fitted out for her new duties. Her guns were reduced from ten cannon to six and a mizzen mast was added to improve her handling, thereby changing her from a brig to a bark (or barque)." (she was launched in 1820).

John, I largely agree with your comments. I would also add that whilst I think the instructions were generally good there were a number of omissions and errors in the rigging plans. The rigging was difficult and in parts impossible, for example , it was not possible to attach many of the ropes to the correct belaying pins, particularly in front of the bow cabins. The plans did not always help in these problems as they had not always, in my view, been properly thought out. However, this should not be allowed to detract from what was a really good model.
@JohnsWoodenShips

You can say that again Keran! To a point it was simple impossible to attach any more ropes in front of the mast at the bow. But yes the result is a beautiful model!

If you would have done a bit of research, you could have easily found out about the guns and gunports.. And the parts you hate or said that they are a mistake, is because it is a cheap kit they have to make some consessions.. those parts are easily made in solid Wood too, not much work and you don't end up with a model with parts you hate.. But, after all, congratulations with another finished build!! Up to the next one!!
@JohnsWoodenShips

Hi Wilko! I know that i could have made some parts on my own, but since this kit is not an expensive one and the range of people is not the advanced modelers, to change stuff and make them on my own would be something that the people who will build this one will find hard to do. Also the review is for the model that you can build from this kit, so there are parts that i hate. If you take the time to watch the Montanes Series you will find out that i have made a lot of additions. The result of the Beagle is a beautiful model, we agree and the owner agrees more ! The next one is something that you will love :)

Hey John the cannons are accurate though. If you research the history of the beagle, she was rebuild, or rather rerigged and a mizen mast was added. For the research cruise on which Darwin was on board the number of cannons she was carrying was also reduced to 8, which I think includes the carronade on the foredeck. She was build during the napoleonischen wars but was traveling during peace times, so that does make sense given the premise of this ship

Hello John, the model shows the ship as it was converted for the expeditions of Charles Darwin. Therefore only the 6 cannons.

Contact me through email : john.aliprantis@gmail.com or through Facebook messenger if you wish to know more details and prices. But have in mind that models that will cost 500-600 euros to buy as a kit and have 8-12 months of work won't have a price of 1000 euros.
