Thank you TSG, I offer the basic suggestion in the tools instructions but it occurred to me that first timers need more than a cursory explanation. I know I did. I'll upload a video of the finished project ASAP. And I just tried using some medium CA glue on some flywheels and the slower cure rate allows enough time for the proper placement of the flywheels too. Of removing them will require using paint thinner in the future. Thank you for your consideration of my work. It was one of my better days.

Joseph .. will your puller work on Bachman or other motors, too? Thanks
@josephwoehlerii2855

I just tried it on ATHEARN and some ATLAS yellow box motors, my guess is that the BACHMANN motors of these later years are similar to other makers and have a 2mm sweat fitted flywheel which may be more resistant to removal than my tool is able to overcome. But if they made it like some of the PROTO style motors it might have the "neopreen inserts" and remove like the ATLAS yellow box. Try twisting the flywheels in opposite directions by hand and look to see if there is any give?

Use Walthers goo on the flywheel. Works.

I did a motor test with just the motor hooked up to a ho power pack, Its the motor that gets hot. What do you recommend I do or do I just get a new motors?
@josephwoehlerii2855

Sorry to hear about the overheating, check the brushes for damage. These are located under the spring clips on the top and bottom of the motor. (BE CAREFULL WHEN REMOVING the CLIPS) as there are springs that will fly out and will need to be handled and set aside for reuse. The brushes may be damaged or worn out but also if you've over oiled the oil will cause a short to ground which will overheat the motor by a great degree. Inspect,clean and reassemble all and test again looking for sparks around the brush area. If none then your windings may be damaged and a motor replacement is called for in your case.

Hi do your athearn motors get hot hot when running them? Mine do what will cause this to happen ? How can I prevent that from.happenig? How can I prevent that from happening?

Hi Tim, Yes from my experience all these motors get pretty warm when there is a connection issue. In my automotive class way back in my youth I learned that prolonged high current draw, to small a wire and/or poor contact issues were the general culprit. Early Blue Box models have even more problems like this when lubricant would travel onto the wheel axles, you'll notice the square brass contact bushings in later models, and the early ones without the brass contact bushings you'll have to keep those ultra clean and use the BACHMANN conductive lubricant sparingly for lubrication on the gears, that way if any does migrate it won't be a big issue again. Check all your wire connections and replace any overheated wire and clean contact areas especially the ground connections and inspect solder joints too.

Also the frame are is the ground point on the model that contacts the truck to the frame so check and clean that area too both truck contact area and the frame area.

When I last checked my listing the google search showed it best by looking up (HO ATHEARN LOCOMOTIVE FLYWHEEL PULLER ) I then checked any listed and clicked on (SELLERS OTHER ITEMS) on that listing. That will take you to my current listings . I currently have pullers numbered #128 and #129 listed. You can send me any questions through ebay messaging on that site. Thanks for the interest and question.

Yes, I can do that. Just give an hour or two as I'll have to get the needed items out for the shot. What is your email? On the motors you only need to oil the thrust bearings with a toothpick tip of oil every 50 hours of normal run time.

What else can I use instead of the motor connector?
@josephwoehlerii2855
3 жыл бұрын
It is best to use plastic safe oil and or lite grease and/or graphite grease for certain applications and always in minute measured amounts. I do not know about using the MARVEL oil but check the hazard label or test it on a scrap piece of clear plastic to see if it clouds up with use to check the safety of use for plastics.

Instead of the metal bar as in motor connector? No matter what you use the connections start at the wheels and axles.
@josephwoehlerii2855

The only alternative to the metal bar or strap if you prefer is hard wiring the motor to the truck pick up's and there are numerous youtube videos the offer that in good description.

I'm sorry to be so slow in responding,getting my legs back under me after a bout of illness. I'm sorry to say that I have no experience with that model. I would guess that having enough clearance to install a flywheel or replacement motor of that kind would be the first consideration and that includes the shell clearing the motor set up. I'm sure that cutting down a flywheel to length is possible.

The only thing that I can suggest is to contact ebay. I've no idea how the Garrett locomotive is set up or even if my tool will work for you. The number one issue is fixing your locomotive and not wasting your money and time in doing it.
