Headed out to the Shire’s Rest Cafe for coffee and breakfast. Apparently the Hobbiton cafe has always been open to the public - not just for patrons of the Movie Set Tours. Roaming the New Zealand back country roads of ‘Middle Earth’ during an early 6°C morning on my motorbike was cold and uncomfortable, but was still an uplifting experience.
You might notice large directional arrows painted on the road every now and then. Those are there to remind international drivers which lane they’re supposed to be driving on. The route has a lot of blind crests and corners, so it pays to keep speeds in check in case an absent minded tourist suddenly appears heading towards you on your lane.
