I really enjoyed your stories about the Marines. My son was in San Diego after boot camp in 1995. He was in the Navy and had to get all 4 wisdom teeth out at the same time by probably the same dentist you had😂! He called home and I felt bad for him because I remembered getting mine out. I paid for a motel room so he didn’t have to suffer in his rack. He was stationed on the USS Dixon first at San Diego and then the USS Independence Carrier in Japan. He was an MP like you both wanted to be and really liked that job. He called home from Japan and told me that they were going to the Gulf. I started to cry and gave the phone to my husband. It’s not easy being a mother of kids in the military. Anyway, your stories reminded me of that time. I am glad that you both came home safely like my son did. I thank you both for your service. 😊💕🇺🇸🇺🇸

GySgt Retired, Recruiter, Dark Green, father of twins here. Enjoy your vids, funny sh%t. Your experiences are one of too many, sorry ya’ll didn’t get the experience I did. I had some great leadership from Black Marines who mentored me and later the pride of standing on the shoulders of those who went before me became a source of inspiration. As a recruiter, I made it my business to let everyone I spoke with know that I nor the Corps needs you and that your MOS is not a reason to enlist. It’s deeper than that. Y’all had a ish-bag recruiter. As far as leadership goes, you’re on point. When I was a Devil Pup, I was told if you don’t like the leadership, get promoted. It stuck with me and with each promotion I tried to make sure I didn’t become one of those MF’ers. I tell everyone, Boot Camp & Schools is the easiest part of the Corps. When you hit the fleet and you have to deal with the bureaucracy, racism, and favoritism and still be successful is when it gets hard. At San Diego, I was stationed on Coronado Island, on the USS Nimitz. When I was TAD to navy security forces, we did our gun qualifications at camp pendleton. If you was at a naval hospital in San Diego, you might uv been at Balboa. When I got hurt, I got orders to Balboa. When I got drunk two times, at Gaslamp (the bar district), they found me passed out, on some public transportation bench. One time, I woke up at Balboa. The other time, they seen my CAC card, and then took me to another naval hospital. After our swim call, we marched back to our compartment. Our Chief RDC was like, "whoever failed your, swim qual, come to me" It was about 18 out of 88 dudes that failed the swim...Mayne, my Chief, Chief Mark Young, was like "Awe hell, only nuttin' but black boys failed the swim qual. 🤣🤣🤣 I was like 1 of 3 black guys in Div. 091, that passed the swim. He fell in reaching for the boat ladder and even with a life preserver on he sunk like a stone and he was to fat for me to get him back on the boat. Luckily a few off duty's were in the stupid ass crowd that was just watching my best friend freeze to death. I did joint training with Marine MPs; very professional. My most appreciated decoration: good conduct. I believe I succeeded as an officer because I had been enlisted and listened to outstanding non-commissioned officers and trusted officer mentors. We learned how to swim in the Trinity Bay. My Dad would tie a rope around out waist and tell us to jump out the boat. If you sank for too long he would pull you up!! That was in the 60's. It would probably be considered child abuse now days. Lol We can all swim like crazy though! It worked!

I was with 3/7 H & S 2531 1969-1972. When I was with 3/7 we lost 21 Marines from June to October 1970. Two Marines from boot camp were KIA in June of 70. Semper Fi.

@@vicO1323 Respect. I'll be sure to pay my diligence to my brothers that served before me in glorious combat. No matter when and where we we fought, we are all connected through a long line of history and tradition. Tip of the spear

I enlisted in March, '67. Growing up in New Mexico, I never had much exposure to Blacks, but there were two Brothers from Watts in my platoon in Boot Camp. Man, did I ever lose my cherry! Been shot at more by Black Marines than by Vietnamese, and it took me a long time to get past that shit. I did get over it, though, and those memories cause me some discomfort. But I'll tell you what, Brothers: I have an understanding of racism from both sides, and I do my very best to educate every person with whom I come in contact. Y'all are doing a great job of that, too. I don't know where this crazy crap is going to take us, but it may come to the point again where all we have is the Marines at our sides, and there's a shitload of people got no effing idea what that's gonna mean to those who force us into that situation. Semper Fi.

I never served and first off, thank you guys for your service. I had a lot of friends join the military right before the first gulf war. Marines, army and navy. Recruiters lied to every single one of them. BIGTIME! Oneendedup a marine tank comander, not sure how that happened, acted tough, little pussy in real life. Shortman syndrome with a hispanic background. Cried like a baby when he lost the paddle to his canoe and i left with the only power boat to rescue three overturned canoes drifting down the river. Like a little child! WTF? I thought they were supposed to make em into MEN!

Man, I scored real high on my ASVAB, they told me I could be an officer, even a flyer but all I wanted was the infantry (call me crazy, it was the '80's) so they talked me into Security Forces which was actually kind of a big deal but I didn't get it - After PI I went to Pendleton for infantry school then went to Seal Beach as a SF Marine - What a shit duty station - I got in so much trouble you wouldn't even believe it.... I've got a lot of funny stories, too.... Way funnier than yours! :D Ha, ha, ha... Semper Fi, Fellas

Damn I had the same thing happen to me as you guys. I was told at 17 I didn’t do well on the asvab test I usually scored well on test. But I didn’t know I said ok what happens now They said you go in open contract smh I was told I was a cook after I tore up boot camp number 2 in my battalion in 81. Plt 3085 Grad 12-22-81 My drill instructors were pissed I got railroaded. If I didn’t get railroaded I would have stayed in for 20 I got out soon as my time ended 81-84. Those recruiters need to be bitched slapped.

Ahhh.... the memories!! 🤣 Hope to meet you guys in the future. Too damn funny. I was a corpsman, served from 92 to 98. Might've crossed paths at one time. In bootcamp in 92, we had a brother in our company that could not swim. I remember his last name was Ivy and he was a big dude from Georgia, I believe. He stood at the top of the tower with his hands crossed over his shoulders looking down at the water and crying hard. When he finally jumped, he sunk to the bottom just like you guys said, and he never came back up on his own. 2 Seals jumped in and had to bring him back to the surface. He was placed in a company behind us for additional time to get swimming lessons. I've always wondered if he ever got through boot camp.
