It’s not confusing at all. They have different names, different sizes, different appearances, and one is covered in large stiff bristles while one has small green hairs. WARNING!!!! HOGWEED IS EDIBLE BUT GIANT HOGWEED IS BAD NEWS!!!! HE mention GIANT HOGWEED at the end... which is confusing because you talk about REGULAR HOGWEED in the rest of the video..... i would re-edit that to make it less confusing.... Someone might think you were talking about the giant hogweed being edible when it IS TOTALY NOT EDIBLE: Giant hogweed contains a sap which irritates skin when it is exposed to sunlight. Symptoms are usually noticeable within 24 hours and include blistering and swelling on the skin, which may be made worse by over-exposure to the sun
@sterling0heart

Giant aching seeping blisters are indeed very irritating. Doubly so if you try to weedwhack the plant and it gets in your eyes and blinds you. Irresponsible of.him not to include a proper warning because the stuff looks so similar, just bigger.

Yes thank you! I was getting upset. Then i thought he put some warning at the of the video in text. Then i rewatched and got even more upset! Any video talking about "hogweed," (i haven't heard of it actually) parsnips, or wild carrots needed to talk about how dangerous giant hogsweed is. The oil distroys the part of you skin that protects from uv light so (slightly excavating but only slightly) 5 minutes of sun exposure is equivalent to 30 minutes of exposure all at once. Not only does it burn you if you let the oil contain uv light but once the reaction has occurred it takes years to heal to the point where you can allow the affected area to even be in uv light without a burn accruing. I believe that its close to 7 years or 7 years was the longest documented case? Idk idc its irresponsible to talk about edible look-alikes without address the fact the giant hogsweed look nearly identical in its early growth stage, the stage they are recommending harvesting. And its spread invasivly in parts of the USA.

I live in Vermont and every spring I pick wild growing fiddleheads which are edible wild vegetation that grow in the woods on parts of the river banks.They look like the top of a fiddle,hence fiddhead but really there just a fern that’s very young you pick just as it’s grown out of the ground and 5-10 inches tall and still coiled. The season lasts between 4-6 weeks and sometimes a little longer if the buyers stay buying. I pick between 4-5 thousand pounds a season and come in contact with hemlock and ivys I wish I didn’t. I get a rash every year along with tics being really bad now days I get hit like 5-10 times by tics per season and flick off another 30 from my cloths. I got poison hemlock or sumac one year about 8 years back and I looked like a burn victim from my waste to my neck and I got a little inside my ears but not on my face or on my tender bits below ,thank GOD! The poison ivys are not half so bad as sumac or hemplock,for me hemlock was by far the worst it goes threw deep into your skin like shingles. I was the lucky 30 something year old who got shingles one year I guess from stress and it was like shingles but worse ! I was a fing mess and still had to go to work and mow lawns after the fiddlehead pick season ended. If not for making 10k-15k and the potential to reach 20k in 4-6 weeks I would stay far away from that poison hiding in the woods. What a horrible thing to be struck with. All the little scratches feel normal in the beginning like all normal scratches but then by the time you learn it’s not you have already spread it so it’s a nasty little thing to get. I have heard once you get it it won’t happen again but I get it every damn season at very least on my ankle’s which you get small round scab wounds to itch off which hurts when you don’t realize your about to scratch off a scab that’s itchy.Whoever invented it is evil or just has a bad sense of humer. There is no possible way to be on alert for it,the very place it grows is where fiddleheads grow and by the time you realize your in a patch of itchy sickness it way to late and all you can do is train not to inch for the next month or longer. It likes to stick around but the best thing to do to try and combat it is to wash your hands and body in the shower with as much dawn dish soap as you need to wash up with then shower again at the end of the day. For some reason Dawn dish soap keeps it at bay. If you get hit by any of the great itch and scratch plants wash with DAWN DISH SOAP and wash down and away from your body so as to not spread it around. Pepper your whole body over and over with DAWN it’s a life saver and will get rid of the itch disease 🦠 and make it go away half as fast or better then normal wait times. These plants give off there disease 🦠 in the form of wax-oil which then you scratch and spread and DAWN DISH SOAPs one function is being able to break up oily wax and so the more you wash the better it gets.. Don’t even get me started on pulling decapitated tic heads from your skin, Dawn dish soap is no help what so ever and is about as worthless as generation Z.
@MudlarksAlmanac
