Oh gosh, Reto. Don't go tempting me to buy more running shoes 😂 This one does sound fantastic. I've been trying various brands lately, to get a rounded view of the market, but I still love my Hokas.

Mark, what's one more pair of shoes? 🤣I've run in a lot of different trail shoes including other brands (Nike, Brooks, New Balance), and I think this is a winner. Better than Speedgoat.

You’ve really put these Hoka Mafate Speed 4 to the test, Reto! Thanks for sharing your experience and the heads-up about the upcoming price drop - definitely keeping an eye out for that! I'm also a great Hoka fan!

Hi Mihai, thanks for watching and sharing your love of Hoka shoes. There are so any choices, and this is a good one.

Great review Reto. I like the format you used. I had maybe version 2 of the shoe. I bought after Jim won WS 100 awhile back. He used it in the race. I liked it but little bit narrow if not a short training run. I like to try them again. I hope they loosed it up some like they did the Speedgoat. Speedgoat had the same problem before. Mafate is a nice shoe

Thanks for watching and supporting, Richard. Thank you for your kind comments as well. The 4 is a new and improved version, more responsive, lighter, more comfortable, and wider in the forefoot. Worth a try!

Thank you for the kind comments and the sub! Glad that you like the Mafate Speed 4. I'm testing the Hoka Tecton X 3 to replace my Torrent 3, and great shoe as well (if a little pricey lol).

It's a great and durable shoe, one of the few shoes that has gone over 500 miles and not ripped out the upper.

Thanks Labe and I think Hoka designed an amazing technical trail shoe that balances comfort, responsiveness, weight and durability. Too often, I've seen shoe companies mess up a good shoe trying to reduce weight and sacrifice comfort and durability.

@@RunFreeandStrong the 4 is much more durable than the 3 and I liked the 3 which had a better grip, especially on rock. They fix one thing, and mess up another, but someone else might say the complete opposite. Most people thought the SG5 had a great outsole. I never felt confident wearing them on technical trails, plus the lugs wore down too quickly - otherwise a great shoe. Haven't tried the SG6 yet, because it's advertised as having the same outsole.

@@lkopelov Thanks for the comparison between the 3 and 4. My comparison is to the Torrent (which has a Hoka proprietary outsole that unfortunately doesn't come close to the Vibram Megagrip) and the SG 4 and 5. Not a fan of the SG, won't try the 6. Thanks again for sharing your experience and insights. Others on this channel will also benefit.

Ive had Clifton 7, and rocket X, both lost their pop after about 10 to 150km. But price wasn't too bad compared to rival shoes. For trails I have the torrent 2, really like them but after about 150km 4 or 5 lugs have fallen off the bottom, such a shame, I rarely used them over a 2 year period but still the lugs shouldn't fall off 😂 I should probably get some proper hoka trail shoes like these, just I don't really get to the trails much at the moment.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Matt. Hoka are generally known as quality and durable shoes, so I'm surprised. You're right, lugs should not fall off. I've run in the Torrent, Torrent 2 and now Torrent 3, multiple pairs of each, and my only issue is that they don't have great traction on wet surfaces (no Vibram outsole).

@@RunFreeandStrong maybe they go brital if you don't use them much, maybe they've been in the cold corridor through winter months. Still comfortable though
