My favourite part of the movie is the Russian/Ukrainian (personally I think they are both just dialects of the same language, prove me wrong though) localisation of names. Smol-yett and Leev-sea evoke much more power than Smollet and Livesey. Dzhim is eh, just a simple localisation. Second best thing is definitely Livesey's laugh. I don't remember anything from my reading of the book about 6ish years ago, but apparently Livesey used to be an Army Doctor, so his constant laughing seems to be some sort of coping mechanism for some serious PTSD.

Those languages are indeed very similar but Ukrainian has some letters that Russian doesn’t, the pronunciation of some letters is different and the words/roots of words are all pretty much different. I would like to share some things. This film was actually made in 2 years! GOSTELERADIO (head guys who send moneys) asked them to make 2h film in 2 years, but even back then, it was a general practice to spend 9 months on making **10 minute** cartoon. That's the reason why in some moments you can see animation errors and reuse, they simply didn't have enough time. This is also why they added those video clips with singing in between. Personally, i think english version is much worse. Just simply because they cut some parts off and they also replaced ALL of the original background music + original with better visual is on youtube with english subs anyways.

You should really watch Russian version. You know the plot by now, so even the lack of subtitles should be irrelevant. Also original uses way less sound effects.

Seriously speaking, almost all the stand-out characters here are cool. Super cool action movie heroes. If someone says that Trelawny is stupid, he does not understand the whole truth and was deceived by the characteristics (they are not in the English version). He did exactly one stupid thing and it's not beating the picture. He was deceived by the painting when it replaced the window. The picture is generally one of the coolest characters. Everyone idolizes Senator Armstrong's nanomachines, and do you know what Armstrong's nanomachines are made of? From similar nanopicture that came to his aid. And he died only because they decided to leave.

Thank you for the vid - your review appeared to be unexpectedly deep 👀 Let me tell you about some confusing moments you've mentioned Different styles of animation and live action scenes were used due to a catastrophically low budget - they just had to use some cutout animation (paper-joint animation you've mentioned) and also the live action pieces (which I really love)) The creators tried their best with what they had and dare I say they succeeded and even outdone themselves)) Sound effects - almost every move of a character is accompanied by some sound effect as a reference for western comics I think. Comics were a rare and kinda exotic thing in USSR and those effects really added a comics-esque feeling to it (I hope it makes sense)) And there were absolutely no fart sounds. Just believe me on this. Quite the opposite - the sound effects were serious and comic at the same time, creating kinda messed up feeling like "am I reading a serious comics or a comic one??" A lot of people in the comments have already suggested to take a look at the original piece of work with the subtitles There are two great versions of en subs here on KZitem - the user trouchelle has the whole film in one video and those subs are the most iconic I'd say Soyuzmultfilm has... let's say the official version of en subs as Soyuzmultfilm is... let's say... the heir of Kievmauchfilm in the cartoon department. Their subs are also really good. The film has a lot of references to that time media... Mostly USSR media ok, but the international too: Have you noticed the Rambo easter egg in the cartoon?))) The moment you've mentioned - when an enraged pirate couldn't stop shooting a machine cannon and lighted up in the process... literally)) Thank you for appreciating this film and noticing even small details.

The way the Russian dub is more "accurate" is just that it directly takes lines from the book as they were. Which is hilarious next to the cartoon slapstick shenanigans, the book was fairly serious as I remember. There are also some very sly nods to the book, like how Trelawney actually takes out the most pirates, as he did.

8:35 Sound effects in dub are completely different from original, original has little to no comic sound effects, only somewhat comic soundtracks. Also actors are way too non-expressive, compared to original, part of Dr. Livsey's charm in original is his loud manner to speak, giggling. Cpt. Smollet in original has a voice of hardcore soldier. In dub everyone kind of sounds like a teenager. You can compare with original kzitem.info/news/bejne/rYuv0ZxrZnp4jWU - Dr. Livsey. kzitem.info/news/bejne/rYuv0ZxrZnp4jWU - Smollett

A few tips for "content smuggling" (so you don't have to hide the stuff you wanna show behind a fire gif that kinda gets more annoying over time): 1) You can resize the clip within your video to be 10% smaller and give it a border with some moving elements (if they move slow they are less distracting); 2) Putting something (your channel mascot/logo for example) in the corner of the video to obstruct like 5%-10% of it helps (bonus: points if it's something that moves, even slightly) 3) Increase the saturation by 5%-10% (more = more effective but also changes the colors of the original clip too much); 3) Tilting it as little as a 1%-2%, it will be pretty unnoticeable for most viewers, especially if you hide the tilt behind the border, while noticeable for the algorithm (note: works better for live action than animation); 4) Inverting the image horizontally - can be disorienting but the algorithm can't tell that the clip you use is inversion of something copyrighted; Use some of these, maybe in combination with one another or all of them at the same time - since imo its better than covering up the entire thing behind fire Bonus: regarding point 2) - you can put the "eat my ass copyright" fire gif in the corner of a clip

Yeah I wasn’t very proud of how I went about that. After two failed attempts and exporting the video an hour every time, I just got fed up. Not that that’s an excuse. Thank you for the pointers

Dont remember reason, prbably due to many pirates used to smoke and drink a lot in htat cartoon(well, duuh) and all of that pirate aesthetics is quite no good for kids as the role model, soviet ministry of culture demanded Cherkassky to put something in cartoon as the counterbalance some morally approved ideas, like healthy life style, explanation of greedness as something bad etc. So cherkassky decided to use the voice actors in musical liveaction scenes where we can see them singing that alchohol is bad, smoking is bad, working out is good + apart from it a prologue with same actors.

Ok I might argue that I have more experience, but it depends on what version you watched, the English dub or the original, because I watched the original and it was one of my favorites growing up
