This week we will be exploring 2 Timothy 1:13-18, Holding Tightly to God's Truth.
Have you noticed that our culture has changed?
What used to be common virtue (and common sense) has now become offensive and oppressive.
Marriage. Sex. Gender. Family. Morality. Decency.
Things that were once undebatable have now become the very center of controversy.
What has happened?
There has been a shift in worldviews. The Judeo-Christian worldview has been discarded for mysticism, scientism, materialism, sexual hedonism, political neo-Marxism, and whatever else affirms our radical autonomy.
Welcome to the last days!
So how are we to live in such times?
Paul's letter to Timothy teaches us how to live in the last days, how to live when time is short, how to live when our own time may be short. After all, when Paul wrote this letter, he was only weeks or months from his own execution at the hands of Nero.
Regardless of the times, we are not to live with a spirit of fear but rather with a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind.
And to do this, we have to hold tightly to God's truth.
It is truth that sets us free.
It is truth that sets others free.
It is truth that defines our reality, our identity, and our destiny.
In this passage, Paul will exhort us not only to guard the beautiful, life-giving truth of God's Word but also to be an encouragement to others in the body of Christ.
We are all in this together. We need the power of the Spirit to stay strong... and we need one another to stay the course.
May the Lord ground us in His truth, strengthen us with His Spirit, and refresh us with His love!
