Thank you sir, was wanting to build my own carb from scratch (there so dam expensive now) and was looking for videos so I fully understand what's going on and this video made it click for me. I've always ran Edelbrock

It´s actually an excellent explenation. I knew that upper bleeds affect low rpm and vice versa but I´ve never really understood it. The illustration with the straw was perfect even though we couldn´t see the juiice. Well done sir!

Great idea with the straw and juice box! If anyone has ever tried to drink through a straw with a split in it, they will get it!

This is the first video I have seen, and I watch and read a bunch....the first that explains WHERE the AIR bleeds come into play. UP HIGH tends to start emulsify mixture at lower speed/rpm....down low tends to start emulsify at higher speed/rpm. Yep it's the first time I can remember hearing this, I think. So to modify the MIX at low RPM, think up high, to modify the MIX at high RPM think LOW. I'm holding my 1850 metering block, as I write, it has one bleed high, one bleed low. Good job. Now how do I find out about the IDLE restrictions, you mentioned earlier?

Sorry for the late reply My friend. I'm moving house at the moment. If you're keen to learn, search the old forums for any post by Mark Whitener. ANYTHING Mark has to say about carburetors is utterly priceless 👌🏻

@@timosracecars I have been tinkering lightly for years with carbs, I find them fascinating. I am even going back Q-JETS like I startled with many years ago. I know where to get the secret info now. Thanks.

Good explanation now all I need is and engine dyno with an air/fuel ratio meter to fully tune a carb for max performance, or at least it would make it easier than trial and error on the street as the carb is much more accessible with the engine on a dyno. Thanks for the info.

🤣 A dyno would make things much easier, yep. But an O² guage is reasonable cheap and easy to fit to your car too 😏

Have one but the ease of have one's engine on a dyno as opposed to running one's car down the highway time and time again and possibly running across the law at speed is why I would prefer a dyno. I have asked Santa for one for years, but she just looks at me funny. When are you going to road test your machine?@@timosracecars

@@stephenwest798 In all honesty I think I'll test drive it as soon as the brakes are done. I may even have glass in it by then 😉 I agree a dyno is best and compared to speeding fines and impound fees dyno times pretty cheap. Cops can impound you car at the officers discretion over here 👎🏻so we really have to watch ourselves.

Not a whole lot different over here things have gotten crazy with the power cops have which is why I built an off-road jeep to take my frustrations' out on. My 340 purrs nicely thru a two, two and a half inch in and two, two and a half inch out flowmaster muffler. People with cell phones can be a problem also so one has to be careful on the highway. Sure, as hell isn't the country I grew up in, sad. @@timosracecars

What a great video! A question I've always had: how do the main jets factor in to all of this? Changing them affects the Air/Fuel ratio, so isn't trying to get the jets "right" more straightforward than doing the Air Bleeds at the same time?
@timosracecars

@@Adrenacyde holy moly, my apologies. I didn't realise I missed this comment. With regards to air bleed tuning. Best practice is to adjust main jets at the same time as air bleed adjustments to maintain the desired AF ratio. Air bleed changes do alter your AF ratio, but it's unconventional to make AF changes that way. Generally speaking air bleed tuning is to time the activation point of the circuit and jetting is for AF tuning. Hope this answers you question 👍🏻

instead of the straw in a drink, think water pipe, and air lift.
