Holley use to have lots of recommendations and tuning tips on their web site. Usually with a rebuild kit there are lots of little tips in the instructions as well. I've owned lots of Holleys and still have a whole shelf full of them. once you learn to tune them you won't want to run anything else.

Agreed. I used to have an Edelbrock and thought it was great and I guess I still do. I now have a double pumper and took the time to learn as much as I could about it (there's always more that I could learn though) . I've been running the Holley for over a year now and I love it.

WOW, Tony. Thanks a bunch for bringing back Fond memories. Of tuning and setting up the normal Holleys and the Double Pumpers. Had a Large double on my 350 Chevy small block. After getting it in place and bringing the fuel in right. Would take my truck around the block and after setting every thing just right. My Truck would dance! Foot off of the Gas. Almost dead stop, just rolling. Tap the Gas it would jump forward again! Any good music worked. LOL Any Long Highway or Freeway traveling. Just cut the Gas out until before dying. Back a touch, then adjust idle to lower rpms. Best way to get better MPG, and save cash too. There isn't any vehicle that you can't tune just right with those Hollys! Thanks again for the video. And it looks like you had Fun doing it too!

I feel if people should learn how to diagnose and repair the problem rather than just replacing parts until they hit the problem. I like Holley, Eddy (carter) and Q jets and they all get bad raps, some people blame the brand when in fact it is their own lack of knowledge and inexperience that is the problem........rant over!

Interesting information Uncle Tony, although the Holley Manuals can be jam packed full of Carburettor goodness, they can be a little vague at times. Wholly, I think the eagerness young blokes can be at fault here wanting bolton power - fit and forget so to speak - and wonder why they run into trouble for rushing a job they needed to take their time with. I believe the mystery of Holley Carburettor tuning is solved, so it makes more sense now. I did see and read an article last year where a double pumper was modified for street/bracket racing for aesthetics, power, metering and airflow, which was very interesting indeed. Thankyou for sharing this, Cheers :-)

Thanks for this video. I just recently purchased an 83 Camaro Z28 that had been swapped with a SBC 350, and have spent the last 2 weeks rebuilding most of the mechanicals from the ground up, replacing what needed replaced. I have it moving down the road now, but it needs some tuning, it has some hesitation when the throttle is mashed but accelerates smoothly if I ease into the throttle. I've never tuned a carb, but this video makes me think I at least have a shot at it. Holley DP 4150 is what I am working with. Thanks again!

I once had a Chevy 350 that I put a 750 Vac secondary Carb on.Mild cam also & old cast iron Exhaust manifold on to.It ran like a pig on full throttle but ran perfect on a Dyno.Turned out the fuel line was getting to hot next to the exhaust manifold & the fuel vapour was drawing in on acceleration full throttle & stuffing up the fuel pump. Also the fuel pump was over 7lbs pressure & this stuffed up the float level in the carbi.Next I found out the Mufflers were 2 restrictive & this buggered up acceleration also.On a good note I had a 351 Cleveland that ran way to rich just off idle & a USA magazine said drill out the butterfly,s 1/8 to lean out the mix & bring back the idle mixture use.Bingo,it worked a treat. The 750 double pumper was drilled 4mm in the end & fuel economy came back as well as clean spark plugs. It was the lumpy cam that created this drama & I had to advance the timing from 8 to 12 static & drop total from 38 to 27 deg all in by 2500 rpm .Also it had closed chamber 302 heads on it giving high compression & was told they had to come off for our low octane fuel. Not true I got 400 HP after all this and a set of 2.5 in Super Turbo Mufflers. The 1250KG T bucket got 11.8 seconds on a 1/4 mile like this any day of the week.

Thanks so much for your videos. I greatly appreciate them! This seems to be an artform that this slowly disappearing. My girlfriend has her grandpas trucks (69' F-100) and it seems to start/crank just fine. We replaced the carb with a refurb'd motorcraft carb, since we couldn't get her accel. pump to stop leaking (even after a rebuild). It not longer leaks after the carb replacement, however the truck will crank, start and idle just fine- even without the use of the manual choke- but after it warms up (like driving to work), the truck will lose power and eventually stall. It won't run again until after a good 15 minutes or so have passed. We have spark- and the truck doesn't appear to respond to carb cleaner when sprayed. After it cools down though, it acts as if nothing has happened. I'm "new-aged" mechanically inclined- so I'm somewhat familiar with engines in general, but this whole carb thing fly's completely over my head. She wants to sell the truck- but it starts up and drives so good, that I believe that it's just a tuning issue- or something that happens AFTER the truck has warmed up, and goes away once cooled down a bit. Not sure why I'm writing this long post. I'll go back through from step one and see if I can't better describe the issue that we're witnessing and then report back. I'm sure we'll be referring to your videos until then. Thanks again for all your guidance. It's very much appreciate from keeping older vehicles from the yard. Joey
